Favourite bird to attract to your garden

  • I love to see the large owls since they remove mice, voles, and rats that eat my bulbs.

Located deep in the heart of the American southwest, Silver City, New Mexico.
  • @NM_Jeff: Welcome to the forum - appreciate your input; we love owls too - but rarely see them here in town! *Occasionally hear them hooting in nearby woods/ civic park though - reminds me of previous cottage home in the 'wilds' of South Pembrokeshire!

Not that I do anything to attract them, but my favourite birds that 'pass through' are long tailed tits.

They're just beautiful @Loxley. One of my favourites too.  :)

They don't pass through very often, but they let you know about it when they do!

My daughter bought me a little notebook once, with a really lovely drawing of them on it @Loxley, accompanied by the phrase - 'tiny clouds in tracksuits'. Sums them up well  :)

I came off one of the more remote Munros [ in Glen Fyne] some years ago, and had a seat in the sun by the river on the way back. There was a sudden flurry of activity on the other side, and a little flock of them descended on a tree, stayed for about twenty seconds and then, just as quickly, they were away. Beautiful  :)

They always seem happy, no squabbling on the feeders, just happy little 'lollipops'.
Hold onto that memory Fairygirl. 🙂

It's funny @Woodgreen, but it's one of the favourite moments I had that day, despite it being a really good walk!
We used to get them regularly in the garden round the corner, but they've not been in very often in this one. Hopefully, that will change  :)

Whenever I hear a flock of them approaching, I have to stop and watch them..
Similarly if I hear the goldcrest up in the big conifers...one time this summer I was privileged to watch a goldcrest on the lowest branch of a pine in my garden. It was unconcerned about me, no doubt because usually they feed in the topmost branches where there are no people! It was a treat.
