Good morning. Bright and sunny here and hardly any wind. I've been playing with the beasties who all want attention this morning - like a bunch of toddlers! OH has gone out to play with the mowers and his new drive belt.
I need to get dressed for "outside" and do the weekly shop. A friend tells me that as of today garden centres here can open to sell plants and seeds which will help keep us busy in the garden during lockdown, even those who don't grow veggies. I really don't need seeds but I do need plugs of this and that while the seeds I sow get to size.
Bin collections as usual here - alternate weeks for general waste and recycling bins. No green collection but then we have compost heaps. Will have to ask what happens for those in the towns.
Keep busy, stay positive and stay safe everyone.

I don't know @Fairygirl. I don't have French TV connected here and haven't listened to the radio for a few days. I actually did the cleaning yesterday with Radio 2 on the TV for the first time. Very different playlists and easier to switch off my brain to the gabble.
Google tells me 57000 identified cases and 4032 deaths in hospitals as of yesterday. I suspect that does not include OAP residential homes. Peak expected on the 5th of April and confinement likely to be extended after current date of 15th. My patchers are all staying at home and are safe and well so far. Ditto neighbours.

Is that a large percentage then @Obelixx? France has a similar population to the UK doesn't it? Hopefully it'll subside a bit before too long. Keep safe x

At the last count, 66.99million French population so a teeny bit higher than UK. More confirmed cases and deaths here but also more testing so who knows? It will all come out in the wash when it's over. All we can do for now is maintain isolation and, when we do have to go out, limit it to once a week for essentials and maintain safe distancing.
On the up side, my patch ladies have risen to the challenge and are keeping each other updated and connected, including the 3 without email or internet who get phone calls form near neighbours. Great to see them pulling together and coping well, despite some having their own health worries and families in the front line.

Bigger country so more spread out though, with bigger rural areas etc? I expect that helps to a certain extent, but of course, it also means people may have to travel more for supplies. Catch 22....

I can understand the changes to bin collections now but, they suspended the green bin for 8 weeks over Christmas and stopped food waste collections altogether at the same time, & these never re-started. We are fortunate to have verges & hedges at a lot of our roadsides, they contracted out the cutting of these ages ago & the contractors never clear up they just cut and leave it in the road or all over your car if it's there. We used to know when they were coming not anymore. My gripe is they already cut the service to the bone long before the excuse of the current crisis. Sorry this should probably be on the curmudgeons thread. Grumpy today because my shoulders & neck & suffering from yesterdays exertions.
Yes @Fairygirl. My SM run is normally a 45km round trip. 60ish at the mo cos of a detour following flood damage to a major road. On the other hand, I'm alone in the car and not infecting or getting infected except for exposure in the shop. The roads are very quiet but even so I have seen the odd loon speeding and overtaking on country roads a long way from any help that may be needed if they get it wrong.
@Allotment Boy - many council services were cut to the bone even before this crisis. They'll be in even more difficulties now.

They report on Spain and Italy, but I haven't heard them mentioning France
