Gove has just said that work can go ahead on building sites but that just contradicts everything the government announced last night.

This is the problem, even those in Government are interpreting things differently.  My nephew is an electrician who was told initially that he would be working.  He has since been told the the wholesalers are closed so they won't be able to get more materials.  The OP may find the same problem with obtaining the timber to finish the decking.

Apparently hardware stores will still be open, but not sure which ones. A friend at wickes said they are closing but you can still order for delivery and collection although that may well have changed today. Luckily the ordered the decking last week so it’s supposedly arriving on Saturday for me to complete the job the next week

What about garden centres? Hardware stores are allowed to stay open. If your toilet breaks it need to be fixed. All those plants are going to die if not watered. Animals in stables or farms need to be looked after.

Quick update.  I have just called the firm which is due today to replace a smashed panel in my conservatory roof.  They are working as normal.

I think Screwfix are operating a click and collect service only. Either order online at home, or from your Smartphone in the car park,  and they will email/text when it's ready for collection.

Well I see the neighbours have got the kitchen fitters in but I suppose if they haven't got a kitchen then it's essential work, my son works for a bedroom fitting company I wonder if a bedroom's essential?

I've seen a few Tweets saying that Homebase has asked staff to still go to work. I had hoped to get a haircut and buy compost today before the lockdown happened, but the best I can hope for is getting the compost!
