Good morning everyone . I hope that you are all coping with this dreadful situation. I am up early to do a quick shop before it gets too busy .Take care .
I had an email yesterday from David Austin to say that they are closing their Rose Gardens, Plant Centre, Gift Shop and Restaurant because of the latest virus threat. Just one tiny example of how businesses are being affected. I feel so sorry for people who are having their livelihoods affected at present. My youngest sister being one of them.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
Good morning LB, the effect of this virus on the economy is horrific. My fiancé has no work at all, he is the main bread winner, we have some savings but if this goes on too long we will be in real trouble. Really hoping the government offers some help to the self employed. Good luck at the SM to you and Ruby!
Back from SM . No bread no bread mixes . No loo rolls no kitchen rolls . No fresh milk few cartons of uht . Meat counters nearly empty.lots of shelves empty . It’s crazy. There will be a few people with there store cupboards heaving and thousands who will find nothing on the shelves because of panic buying .
Debs I really feel for you and your fiancé. Its a total nightmare.
SM trip was absolute bliss. That is definitely the best time to go if you CAN do it. A handful of customers. Got absolutely everything on my list, Lily will be chuffed (Ante = very happy). This did not include the things most mentioned on TV but there were toilet rolls available if you wanted any. The only shelves that were absolutely devoid of goods were the frozen food cabinets. It was reassuring that it was such an easy experience. The car park was filling up as I was leaving. The only negative - its still raining! Grrrr.

Just had ASDA order, only missing item was tonic for fiancé will get that locally, to be fair there are usually a few substitutes so nothing unusual there. I won’t do another big shop for a week or two. Having Fiancé home means he is pulling stuff out of chest freezer and planning meals where I usually have chilli that I batch cook or pasta because it’s quick when I am not home from work until 7.30.
My son who was ill is loads better it only lasted 4 days and wasn’t too bad and hopefully he is now immune though his bar job has gone for now. Luckily he has some savings and no real responsibilities so should be ok if this doesn’t last too long.
I can’t see the British staying out of pubs indefinitely to be honest.
Raining here again so not too upset going back to work! Hope everyone keeps busy and cheerful despite it all.
It’s sad that people have stockpiled to such a degree there is little of some things and nothing of others. All we can do is watch the updates and hope sm will be able to restock. I hope everyone has some food even to make a makeshift meal.
Rubee, sorry to hear that you couldn't find a lot of items at your SM.
Debs, i'm glad that you son is much better. He is only one year older than me.
Here is still lovely outside. Sunshine is so nice and warm. I also were at SM. Luckily, shelves are full, and there is not lackinin of anything. First few days people bought a lot of flour, oil and toilet paper (really don't understand last one). Online classes functioning ok, but it's tiresome. So many cross communication with everybody. Here is something to cheer you up, my first tulip this year:
