Why am I not surprised @steephill... I sometimes wonder how much these huge companies waste financially, simply because they seem incapable of telling a*se from elbow. Common sense clearly in short supply, even if the water isn't.

Well my washing machine has picked a terrible time to stop heating the water but at least it's got the decency to carry on washing at cold temperatures rather than just throw up an error code and go on strike. Washing nappies in cold water isn't ideal though I've tested the heater and thermostat and both are apparently working so the problem lies elsewhere. It's still under warranty but I've no idea how claims will be dealt with in the current situation.
VW did this with cars and it was an international scandal but white goods seem to be in a totally lawless market with products not performing as advertised and companies selling premium products that are just rebranded cheap name goods. It all makes me so angry.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
That emoji always looks too happy to me. I'm going to have to clear everything out of the rooms the engineer will go through and then sterilise it all somehow. That's assuming they'll even let an engineer visit right now as there's a risk to them as well. It'll be tricky staying two metres apart in this house though. Oh well, the place could do with a good clean anyway...

Would you Adam and Eve it? Last night about 2am I heard manic laughter in the street. This morning, about 50 car owners found their tyres slashed. The police have two young men in custody.
The good news is that a local car dealer has offered to lend five cars for key workers whose vehicles have been vandalised.
That's great @josusa47 I'm never sure of the motives of car dealerships, but fair play to them - they didn't have to do it, so a round of applause is deserved   Hope you get something sorted @wild edges - you don't want to be heading to the burn to beat your laundry on a rock....

I totally agree with you about unnecessary journeys @Fairygirl, but if you need to go out for essential supplies once a week and pick up some compost at the same time, I think thatâs ok, given the amount of homeware and other inessential crap the SMâs are still selling. I did the very same thing this morning, when I noticed the agricultural shop, on the same block as the supermarket, was open (see my RTBC). I loaded it myself from the yard, looked like last yearâs stock, so I didnât feel too guilty.

I agree @Nollie, but there seems to be some people who don't understand the difference. One journey - no problem. It's the ones who are making journeys just for buying plants/compost that are causing the problem, and they seem to be oblivious. I'm even avoiding going for my daily walk, because there are so many more people out just now, and, because of my daughter, I don't want to be responsible for someone possibly getting it from me.

Thatâs a shame @Fairygirl, that you feel you have to give up your daily walk. Itâs the complete opposite here, the roads are practically empty, the towns are deserted and SMs are much, much less busy than they normally are. Having being used to popping out almost daily for a few bits and bobs and a good old natter, the locals have totally changed their shopping habits and are doing bigger shops - more trolleys in evidence, less hand baskets - but presumably less frequently in order to minimise contact.

A local farmer was complaining in the local press about people driving a few miles from home to walk footpaths through the fields because their villages were too crowded with people out walking so they were finding it really hard to keep the requisite two metres apart. The farmer didn't believe that was possible. He should come here ... this is a quiet suburban village on the outskirts of Norwich ... at some times of the day it really is quite busy with people out walking ... OH went out for his usual whizz around the estate on his bike the other day ... he came back in because he said it was just too difficult to keep away from people ... he went out later ... after dark ... to get his exercise. Some people will never have been so fit at the end of all this ...Â

I wonder if you can get an engineer as long as you stay in another room etc while he/she works?
