This says that people in their 50s and 60s are the wealthiest in the UK, but people in their 70s and 80s have more than the under 50s. Wealth obviously includes illiquid assets, but in general the idea of poor pensioners is waning as the Baby Boomers - the richest generation - reach pensionable age.

There are exceptions to every rule, of course. I think it's hard to ask those in their late 80s and older to pay, having had free licences for decades. My Dad used to get a reduction in the fee because he was registered blind without having to go through a lot of form filling. I would have thought some similar rebate/reduction could be contrived based on age in order to taper the reintroduction of full fees

it's a link to a report from BBC, so some on here will instantly dismiss it.

I thought there was a plan that would trigger free licenses for the elderly who are also on Pension Credit ... or did I dream that ?

That was my understanding, but I heard it on the BBC, so maybe some will say it's fake news?

So that’s ok then? The  poor elderly don’t have to pay and the rich do.
    What’s the problem?

Mine too, but do poor young people get a free license.

I wouldn't mind paying the full fee if only there were good programmes I wanted to watch, most of BBC/ITV is pure drivel and I never listen to radio at all. I watch 3-4 programmes a week, if that, which seems an expensive ratio.
