I've heard some pensioners, NOT ALL complain that interest rates should rise as they don't get enough return on their savings. Tell that to folk struggling to pay mortgages, or those who can't even save enough for a deposit. " Old does not necessarily mean poor". One of Hubby's clients banged on about " being pensioners now" yet on the day he turned up to start work, they had a 3 week old £40,000 Mercedes parked on their drive. Help poor people, regardless of age, don't make rich people, regardless of age, richer.
We should all be willing to pay extra licence fee, poor Gary Linniiker is finding it a real struggle living on £1.75 million a year.
and all those rich pensioners are struggling.
I didn’t say that, I said why should we pay for likes of him to have 1.75m as well as his advertising money, I don’t wish to pay his wages. I probably won’t renew my licence this year.

That's your choice Lyn.
I'd rather see government money going on health care for the elderly, social care for the elderly and mental health care , rather than give rich pensioners a free TV licence.
I was talking to Hubby about his work this year and only one job of for a couple who go to work, all other clients are " pensioners". If folk can pay a four figure sum to have a room decorated, I defy anyone to argue that public money should go to supply them with a free TV license.
The BBC should be an opt in service anyway @Hostafan1. You seem to want to defend them by using rich pensioners as an example, but the reality is that those who have enjoyed this perk in their old age are now getting threatening letters telling them to pay. There are far more poor pensioners than rich ones who will now have to find the money, or fill out means testing forms every year to satisfy the BBC. We can agree to differ though.
We can indeed agree to differ. As I've said there are safeguards in place so that the poorest pensioners still get a free license. BBC funding is a separate issue which is dealt with by government so I suggest you take it up with your MP. If folk want a " benefit" from the government , they ALL have to fill in forms, young or old, rich or poor.
It's always funny how conversations about the licence fee mainly mention the TV side of things...it also pays for all the websites and radio stations and the world service. Surely it covers a lot of activity to make it good value. And using one person's renumeration as a reason to make oneself feel virtuous for not paying is a nice distraction tactic.
If you don't want to pay then get a monitor that can't receive any programming and just attach a media player and watch Netflix, Amazon and YouTube. Problem solved and no more moaning.
Not sure this is relevant, but I love the BBC [ whilst accepting its faults ]. When you live abroad, I certainly appreciated its value. It is interesting how many people in Africa and the Middle East regard it as their only trustworthy source of information. I don't have any children, but still think I should pay for it. How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
I’m not a rich pensioner ... I get a little bit more than the basic State pension ... but I’d happily pay the licence fee just to receive BBC radio ... I haven’t listened to R1 for years (but I used to) and the service provided by Rs 2,3,4, World Service and local radio are wonderful and I couldn’t do without them ❤️. I could (and have) managed without a tv.
I’d rather do without a car than do without the radio.
