I wonder if you will get a straight forward apology. ;)

@Mr. Vine Eye, I am shocked to hear all this. Thank god you found the theives and your Kew gardens roses. I hope everything gets sorted soon.

It must be very upsetting for your wife. If something like this happens to me I would be very upset too, especially while recovering.

Apart from the despicable behaviour, @Mr. Vine Eye how utterly stupid of them to think they could actually get away with it, that nobody, least of all you, would notice it on the same allotment site!!! Silver lining though, their brainlessness meant you tracked it down rapidly. Sorry about the damage, maybe you could try and claim a new cover from them.

@JessicaS Lady Emma Hamilton is much more fragrant, more floriferous and has better foliage and habit than Lady of Shallott for me. Go for it!

  • Only had a couple blooms from Lady Emma as I got a duffer. But did smell lovely. As others have said Lady of Shalott doesn't smell as strongly.

They're different growth habits though. Lady of Shalott can be a climber. So depends on where you want it

@Mr. Vine Eye I’m so sorry to hear about the theft! To be honest I’ve been quite cautious with my plot as well as it’s in a what some might call ‘rough’ part of town and the site overall just doesn’t seem very well managed.. I cant believe they actually stole your polytunnel too.. considering it must have been a bit of an effort to move it!

I can’t imagine how disheartening that must  have felt.. and to think that if they have the cheek to steal your polytunnel then I wouldn’t be surprised if they decided to help themselves to your crops and flowers come summer..

Hopefully the committee / council will nip this in the bud instead of sweeping it under the carpet.

Looking on the bright side thank goodness you’ve rescued the Kew garden cuttings!

I’ve been following this thread quietly over the last few months.. and I can’t believe that February is already upon us.. and it’s about time to start pruning the roses! Time really flies..

@Marlorena, goodness, I’m flattered! The honour should probably go to someone based in the UK and probably more knowledgeable, but if everyone is happy with me starting it, will do so very soon. Not much to show yet, the days are warming up but the nights are still very nippy. We can get frost pretty late up here in the mountains.

  • I personally think Nollie would be a very poor choice...
