I am just curious to know whether the David Austin roses we buy here in UK are grown/sourced from TCL. I am asking this because I found an original DA label in one of the bareroots.
Oxford. The City of Dreaming Spires.
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth :)

..no, not at all... it would be the other way around actually.. that's how you got the label..

  • I managed to get a bit of gardening done today. A frosty crust on top of the soil but underneath was ok so dug up Westerland which wasn't easy as the roots were all over the place and Night Owl which I've had longer but was more cooperative and moved them together in the same bed separated by a symphyotrichum. Still have some homemade perennials to add to the edges of the bed, Stachys officinalis and verbascum Phoenician but they are currently all frozen in the pots.

Dug up Evelyn Fison which I've had for two years but it's been miserable the whole time. It seems to dislike being touched by other plants so isn't really cut out for my borders. Put it in a decent sized pot with my own top soil and a layer of JI3 and will try and give it some extra assistance this year.

Still have 4 roses to plant out but they are frozen in big pots so I'll wait to decant them when they've defrosted.

Another strong looking bare root from Trevor White, this time it's Chianti. I'm becoming more and more impressed with this company...and quite a bit cheaper than DA and Beales.

...yeah that's a beauty.. always my first port of call, if they haven't got what I want, then I look elsewhere... I hope they will still do a nice selection of potted roses this Spring... they didn't used to offer those, but have increased in number recently...

...this is what you call ''packing them in'' I think...
Aquilegia 'Yellow Queen' at bottom of picture...   I'm replacing these as they don't last forever unfortunately..

Scabious 'Perfecta Blue'...  I've had Butterfly Blue before, but can't remember how it compares..
@Marlorena Thank you for sharing your gorgeous garden! Lots of ideas and I love your combinations, that yellow with the purple really pops.  Im having my lawn replaced with gravel and a circular feature next month and was nervous how all the gravel will look with the garden borders but clearly gorgeous looking at yours! You absolutely have the look I want in my garden.  Whats that beautiful dark rose on the left?

I think @Marlorena, it will also be my first port of call from now on. What the picture doesn't show is how the the three canes split into multiple sturdy canes higher up, which I'm sure will allow it to form a decent sized shrub this year.

Has anyone used cottage-memories for bare root roses before?  I ordered a few weeks ago and Im delighted.  Good prices for unusual roses, large selection of different ones and lovely healthy looking roses with good roots and stems when they arrived - well packaged too.  Im looking forward to seeing how they do.  (I picked up Ebb Tide, Lavender Ice and Open arms from them, and "Seagull" for a friend)
