Hi all, long term lurker on this thread. I've been gardening for over 10 years and never been bothered by roses at all, I was strictly a perennial guy. For reasons unknown, I've massively fallen for roses big time this year and have a whole load of bare roots on order, so the garden will be full of them next year !! I love this thread for info and inspiration, so thanks for sharing so much. I was having a walk around the rose garden at Newby hall today, lovely selection and a few having a final flush, the Comte de Chambord stood out as a real beauty. All the different roses had name tags, except of course for one I loved the most!! It was near an ispahan tag , but I didn't think that would be flowering now and maybe wasn't tall enough, I know from hundreds of different roses it's unlikely anyone may know what this is, but if anyone thinks they may know, i would love to hear, hop to share my roses next year, hope not inappropriate for first post, thanks.
@Rickyjones24 ..hi Ricky... looks like another Comte de Chambord ... I think they must spray because it doesn't usually look quite so healthy at this time of year...
Welcome @Rickyjones24. I too fell into the rose trap this year....a pretty good place to be though. Look forward to seeing yours next season. Which ones have you gone for?
@Rickyjones24 Damask perpetual or early hybrid perpetual, not that many options actually. It could be another CdC but if you think it isn't (after seeing it next to the other one), it's not too far from it timewise and typewise.
Marlorena, it could be another CDC,interesting what you say about spraying as the one tagged as that (above)stood out for 2 reasons, its lovely glow lit the place up on a grey day and it was the healthiest rose in there!
Hi poppyfield, lots! Mostly da, i'm going for a bed of Gabriel oak at the front drive, a bed of 6 eustacia vye by the front door, ancient mariner and Silas mariner in a mixed border in the back garden and paok and mayflower to find homes for, I also have 3 fences crying out for climbers ,but I'm still deliberating on those as one is north facing. I may have jumped the gun on Silas marner, as not seen in flesh and read it may have odd growth habit, any one out there got any views or pictures of Silas? Thinking a large pink old rose may go well with Gabriel oak, was considering queen of Denmark?
@Rickyjones24 the only one I have of those is Eustacia Vye and by the front door is a great place for her. Mine has been very healthy so far and has a lovely fragrance so 6 of them together will smell amazing.
