  • Thank you @Marlorena......you really are the 'Oracle' of all things roses.  The plant to the left is my Rugosa Hansa.  This and the hydrangea were both only planted this summer so not sure how they will do long term.  Further up from the hydrangea is a Pittosporum which has grown really well over the last year years.  I was concerned that the stumps were too close together.

I've never noticed any honey fungus but will keep an eye out.  One thing we do get where the stumps are is mushrooms and lots of them when it rains a lot.

Will get it all cleared and see how far down we can get.  Then need to hunt for a shade loving climber.  Would a short rambler work or would it still get too big for that area?

How do you want to train it/how much space do you want to give to it? Only up or also sideways?

...those mushrooms,,.. if they look like these below, then you might have to think again..  if not, then you're ok..

  • This is the fence area @edhelka.  I was thinking of going up but outwards just about half way up if that would work.

@Marlorena this is a photo I just took of my mushrooms.  They certainly do look similar.  Out of the 3 stumps this is the only stump that gets them and is right next to my flower bed.  I've never had a problem with the plants I've grown there in the past few years.

  • Great photos @Mr. Vine Eye.  Is your Buddleia called Flower Power.  It looks similar as I saved it to my photos last year with the intention of getting it.
