I suppose thats one way that the antibody test will be useful, if only to find out when it started.  But there are many covid viruses and also all the other viruses haven't gone away. Many people die of other flu viruses every year too.

Yes, only an antibody test will confirm.

I didn’t have the flu jab.

Interesting about conjunctivitis being one of the symptoms as I wasn’t aware of that. I did have that a couple of weeks after and put it down to the fact I was run down.

All over Christmas my pharmacy was inundated with people with a cough that wouldn’t go away, feeling tired and lethargic and no appetite and we completely sold out of chloramphenicol eye drops and ointments. Coincidence?? I don’t think so!

My oldest boy had conjunctivitis with it too. It's such an odd virus and seems to throw up all kinds of random symptoms in different people.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

Sadly people are hoping for to much from the antibody test. The reason scientists have been holding back from using it, is that it produces a lot of false positives, and probably, but not for certain, some false negatives too.

NZ went into Level 4 fairly quickly - only allowing residents to fly in by a certain date.  The major 4 cities are not exactly overcrowded but they are nevertheless cities and there are over a million in Auckland.  Anyway, the two countries (Oz & NZ) just shut up shop!  Apparently the PM, her party and some of the opposition have taken a 20% pay cut for 6 months to get the country back on its feet.

Do you know how they can tell that a positive antibody test result is false, given that we are told that anyone can have had COVID-19 without any symptoms?
False negatives I can understand - if someone has tested positive while they had it and then the antibody test says no, one or the other must be false.
I'm not disputing your point, just curious.

No I don't know, but the scientists do seem to, as it is quoted in several papers.

Thanks anyway @punkdoc . I wonder if it's from lab tests rather than from trials on people.

I suppose it's when a test says positive,  but then the person gets it after that @JennyJ
