I presume you won't want a vaccine, if it ever becomes available?

My younger 62 yr old  sister has just caught it for third time. Fully vaccinated but has asthma and a heart condition. Fingers crossed she'll be ok.

One of my daughters life long friends, husband caught Covid in 2020, him and his twin brother, well known DJs,in their 50s, previous fit/healthy. Risk factors.... male/black British. Both ventilated, one home in 5 days. The other, multiple organ failure, strokes, cardiac arrest, sepsis. Lives in a nursing home now, unable to communicate or do anything for himself. His wife was on ITV breakfast almost a year ago talking to Kate Garroway, because at that point,it was thought he was the only person affected so badly.

Has anyone had their Spring booster yet?
I’m wondering if it may be unnecessary now as this will be the 6th one.                     Any thoughts welcome please.

Well I sort of self-administered a spring booster by going down with COVID on the 3rd anniversary of the first lockdown.

There will be a Spring booster programme for those over 75, and for certain medical conditions. People will be contacted as before.

My view, as always, if offered it, take it. I will be offered it for health reasons, and I will take it, that is the only way I can judge these things.

I'm too young for a spring booster, but I had the autumn one. Ended up having it at Christmas because I caught Covid in October. I went to a conference with 5 other people from the company I work with. I was the only one who caught Covid there. I'm at least 10 years older than the others. It's clear to me that the immunity does decline faster with age. If you don't have the spring booster, you may be vulnerable before the autumn ones come around

I'm also too young for the spring booster (by quite a bit) but I'd have it ASAP if I were eligible.

Ok,  I will go for it,  already had the call just wasn’t sure,  if Punkdoc says it ok then that’s good enough for me.

I don't think anybody with any sense is claiming that Covid can't be an extremely serious illness, but with the current vaccines the risk has been massively reduced.  Cases such as the husband of Kate Garraway are tragic for the family but shouldn't be held up as common or the norm.
As far as being prepared is concerned, there is the question of how do you prepare for something like Covid which spread so rapidly.  The Government was criticised for lack of preparation and later criticised for having amassed PPE equipment which then passed it's 'Use by' date.  If the vaccine had been so effective and so quickly available, that kit may well have been needed.
