Yes, and never forget that scientists only know the answer to questions they have thought - or been funded - to ask and prove. Remember when the earth was flat and the sun went round it?

I think there is a big difference between 'curiosity' and 'openness'. A scientist doesn't have to be 'open' to wild and whacky ideas - but being 'curious' means that we are prepared to explore, investigate. 'Openness' might have no critical appraisal involved. 'Curiosity' brings all its tools with it.
There is a kind of creative thinking that can make radical leaps and connections between the seemingly unconnected - where the mind if not fear or rules bound - and spark ideas to investigate.
I love that some of the most innovative thinkers were passionately interested in all sorts of different areas. Prof Oliver Sacks was fascinated by music, motorbikes and storytelling as well as neurology. Jonathan Miller directed operas and was a comic as well as being a neurologist. They were people with a burning curiosity, as well as a rigorous medical training.
I had an unnerving encounter today with the lady who is renting the house behind us. I new she had weird views about Covid so I asked her if she had had her booster, she looked rather sheepish and said no and then of course she said she hadn't been vaccinated at all, and then of course came all the whys and wherefores of her refusal. I beat a hasty retreat.
My friend is a professor of respiratory illness, involved in leading Covid research. He and his colleagues have received death threats from the beginning of the pandemic. They are worried that their home addresses don't get into the public realm. People say they will come and kidnap and rape their children. It's such an indictment of our country that kind, highly trained people are working 16 hour days to save people's lives and their efforts are met with hatred and violence. Imagine being fearful for the safety of your own children because you're a doctor in public service.
It's repugnant @Fire. I'm appalled at the way people are being treated. I read a long time ago about that clown McKeith too. Don't start me on that Corbyn character either. I don't know why these anti vax 'protestors' folk aren't in jail with the way they're behaving. Surely breach of the peace at least? It certainly isn't peaceful protest. There was an item yesterday about a woman stealing stuff from a vax centre too. Christ almighty. Quite right to keep your distance @floralies.
My younger daughter and her colleagues have concerns about their store manager. He avoids any mention of vaccines, and has never disclosed whether he's had them - he disappears when they're chatting about it. He's in the age group to have had his booster. I wouldn't want to be working at close quarters with him, and it's highly irresponsible in the circumstances
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
@Fairygirl maybe best to ask the manager straight out rather than speculating. I hope all the staff are masked up and have decent ventilation in their working areas.
They do, re masks and ventilation. I suggested that to her the other day [asking him] when she told me. She isn't often on at the same time as him, thankfully, but it worries me. He shouldn't be putting other people in that position. Maybe he's pally with Novak Djokovic. He's the same - won't state whether he's had them or not. Irresponsible yet again, when he's travelling around the world competing, and mixing with others.
