@steveTu No idea I'm afraid. I was simply picking up on @Fire's comment re the difficulty in noting true cause of death in countries without the benefit of any real health service in order to provide believable statistics. The death rates given out on the daily news here in the UK ( which have only been publicised in this manner since Covid ) infer that those deaths are due to Covid. That doesn't appear to be the actual case.
You are right @steveTu, but sadly they are still not totally accurate.
There is of course a massive difference between attempting to publish the correct data and deliberately publishing inaccurate data, or indeed not having any data at all.

No, they could have had a mild infection and then fallen off a ladder, or died after an assault or succumbed to a condition they'd had for years, or anything but Covid. No way of knowing!
It seems the French are taking the new variant very seriously. I have just received notification that from now on all children aged 6+ (and, of course, all those over 11 who already have to wear one) must wear a mask in all public spaces and gatherings, indoors and out - just in time for many Xmas markets, school fêtes, Xmas parties etc.

If anything, I suspect it's the other way around. The definition of a "Covid death" is pretty narrow. And testing levels are very low compared to the number of people in the UK infected. Overall excess deaths seem to be a better stat to follow and give a more nuanced picture.
The problem with using excess deaths, is that they are rising due to less surgery being done.... people being scared to go into hospital.... increased waiting times etc etc. So although they reflect the severity of the crisis, they don't really give us actual deaths from COVID. As long as we don't change our definitions, then trends still provide a lot of information, if not the actual numbers.

I think anyone who dies because of Covid should be counted, whether it be directly as the result of infection or later as the result of complications or indirectly because resources were not available to deal with chronic or acute problems because Covid treatments were gobbling up all the resources - ambulances, beds, nurses, doctors, intensive care beds or whatever.
