  • Yes I agree @JennyJ
He should never have relaxed the wearing of masks 🤦🏻‍♀️

I saw the SA doc on Andrew Marr. She gave me some small hope that this development may not be back to square one. Still. Need to wait and see and hope for the best, plan for the worst.

They've never been anything but mandatory here [masks] but it doesn't stop a***holes going in shops without them, and not keeping any distance.
No wonder my daughter caught it again.
I only go in late on a Saturday night when I collect her, and do our main shop. I'm only there for about 15 or 20 minutes.  5 people without masks the other week, including two girls with a young child that they were continually running after...  :|

I don't go into shops much anymore but every time I do someone has brought along a small child that is constantly coughing all over the place. :|
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

@punkdoc I appreciate your information and insights into this topic, thank you!  And all the others who post their information and questions.  This is the one thread I read every time I am on the forum.  I feel better armed with knowledge and scientific data.

  • They have just announced 6 cases in Scotland.  I suspect the Dr from SA may be right that it was already here by the time they announced it.

I'm sure you're right @Allotment Boy. Hundreds of people arriving yesterday morning  (?) from South Africa were not tested on arrival so have dispersed presumably all over the country.
It was noticeable in town today that lots more people were wearing masks but I for one am not pleased we have to do it again, I really struggle with wearing one for a long time.

Went to a retail park in Durham today and the majority of people were wearing masks, perhaps 80% . A week ago it would be about 20% wearing them at a guess.  I never really stopped unless I forgot to bring one.

I have made fabric masks in 3 layers and lots of colours.  We still wear them in shops and public spaces and even for dance class now.   We have a packet of the disposable ones in each car in case we do forget one of our own but they feel flimsy by comparison and don't fit as well or cover as much of our faces so more likely to leak bugs or allow them in.   Better than nothing tho.

Everyone at patch/needlework club this pm is double vaccinated and many have had their boosters.   All wore masks without complaint and we aired the room for 10 minutes in each hour.

We all want a normal Xmas celebrating with family and friends this year so everyone is being sensible and all are very busy making Xmas decorations and presents.  Huge community spirit too.  Love it.
