I wonder how many people like me don't even have the app? My Smartphone is only Android 4 and for the app you need at least Android 6. I have no intention of buying a new phone just for that. My Mum has the same phone as me and my son does not even have a Smartphone! There must be a lot of us about!

I was only saying that to my son last night after the briefing. The covid deaths, as with all death - regrettable, isn't the be-all and end-all in the grand scheme of things. Isn't it 1% (circa 600,000?) of the UK population die of something each year?
I suppose it comes down to perception though and were/are the covid deaths avoidable?
And that leads to the question if you avoided the Covid deaths, did that in itself cause other deaths? How can you ever tell the implications/ramifications?

I only got the app in January when I replaced my old phone (for other reasons). My parents don't have a smartphone. OH's Dad does but is, let's say, not the most expert user.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
So the question is if a significant amount of people don't have or don't use the app for whatever reason then why such a fuss about the numbers pinged?

Allow for multiple balls ups on install and also then deletions. But about 17% of the total population. There are allegedly 80+million mobile phones in the UK - https://cybercrew.uk/blog/smartphone-usage-statistics-uk/ says that there is a big uptake on smartphones (although not clear how many people have multiple smartphones - with spare ones sitting in a drawer after an upgrade). So if the current rate of pinging is posing an issue - what do you think would be the case if 20 million people had the app?
Now that mask wearing is a matter of personal choice when I go to Sainsbury’s and M&S Food with my husband this coming Friday I won’t be wearing a mask. Even with his state-of-the-art hearing aids he’s still very deaf and has really struggled to hear anyone who is speaking with a mask on, including me.
It’s an utter disgrace how the effect of mask wearing on the communication abilities of the deaf and hard of hearing, both audio and lip-reading, has been completely overlooked.

I don't even think I could get it if I wanted it, don't think I have got the internet on my phone and never have bluetooth turned on .
I only use it for calls, texts and the alarm.
