Our GP practice has online and/or phone consultations and then if a face to face appointment is appropriate it happens within the next few days. My OH has had two face to face appointments in the past 9 months … not for anything major, but stuff that couldn’t be properly diagnosed or assessed over the phone or online … it needed hands on prodding and palpating … and that’s what he got … and in one instance immediate referral to an appropriate therapist who phoned later that day to offer an appointment for two days time.
It’s a busy inner city practice with a lot of patients who have a wide range of conditions … if it can happen here I don’t know why it’s not happening in other practices.
I’ve had face to face appointments when it’s been necessary too. I actually prefer a phone appointment though, no need to sort out time off work etc.
I assume if you are working in the medical profession you accept masks as the norm but if you work in a retail pharmacy you don’t @FlyDragon. I personally would never take a job where a mask was part of the uniform. I am exempt but others are hating the masks worn all day every day.

Masks didn't used to be the norm at all, except in theatres. The norm has changed, at least for now.
I share your concern about all the waste though, healthcare gets through an appalling amount of plastic every day even in normal times, its definitely something that we need to look at. More re-usable and instruments/equipment etc. that can be re-sterilised.
Actually I very rarely pick up anything from work, didn’t get swine flu when everyone else in the pharmacy did and no sign of Covid-19 either. Only had flu twice and neither time was when I worked in pharmacy. I think it’s a combination of a good healthy immune system and having lots of children so being constantly exposed to germs years ago. Or maybe I am just lucky!
Oh Great, just listening to Radio 4 news! Some chap who has been involved in virus/ vaccines, says the Beta variant is a concern because the AZ vaccine doesn't appear to produce antibodies against it
I went to the supermarket this morning and out of interest I decided to check how many people were wearing masks. Because I had heard on here about so many not bothering with mask compliance I was a little surprised that everyone I saw, both staff and customers, were wearing one! I also checked several buses that went by and again everyone was in a mask! It will be interesting to see if or how this will change from Monday. Shall keep you updated!!!

I did the same yesterday evening - the weekly SM shop - most people were wearing masks (and odd one or two weren't - so they may have had a medical reason anyway). As I went in, about 4 or 5 other people went in and not one sanitised the trolley or their hands though. Distancing is a thing of the past as well.

The constant sanitising and wiping isn't especially effective at preventing transmission anyway. Its there so the place appears safer and so it appears that the supermarket are doing something. Masks and ventilation are much more useful.

Yes, anything done to excess is probably bad, but that is all it says. As far as I can see no evidence is provided at all.
