When I go out, which still won't be often, I'll be wearing my mask, especially in shops and on public transport. Cases are still going up, too early in my opinion to stop wearing them. 🤷🏻♀️
Maybe this should be on curmudgeons, but there's so much I though I 'knew' about Covid that no longer seems to be the case.
1 - Keep case numbers down - two fold as it protects others, the NHS, the vulnerable and with fewer numbers, less chance of mutations.
2 - Wearing masks - after this was introduced, the masks were worn to protect others, not yourself (although they did offer protection to the wearer)
3 - Vaccination - stops you getting the worse symptoms, but I thought didn't stop you potentially still spreading the disease - ie being a carrier
4 - Schools are not vectors
5 - Quarantine protects others and stops the spread
6 - It's a pandemic - you can't just tackle it (the whole problem) locally as it will just go round and round and more variants will just appear
How does all this work now? Is it true that you can now travel if you've been double jabbed and also come back into the country without need for quarantine (from amber list countries)? Why? I thought 3 and 5 were 'true' - so what if travellers come back with variant 'x'?
There seems to be so many stories now about schools having issues with covid amongst their students (my plumbers daughters, both under 6, have been sent home as their 'bubble' has been hit and a school head was saying on the radio that out of 1200 pupils 750 were at school with the others being quarantined). Why is this so rife as I thought 4 was 'true'? Is this https://news.sky.com/story/covid-19-375-000-school-pupils-absent-over-virus-highest-number-since-children-returned-in-march-data-shows-12344800 'true'? So now we're pushing vaccines lower and lower down the age groups where if 6 is true the vaccines should be being pushed to where they save the most live and stop the most spread.
It seems that mask wearing will be optional - but isn't 2 'true' - and if 3 is true (ie you can still be a carrier even if fully vaccinated) isn't 2 still applicable?
I also still can't see how they know if the low hospitalisation rates are vaccine related or if the delta variant is the driver. India, pre vaccine program, was reporting higher cases in under 40s. Now it seems we see lower age groups getting it here - but who are they getting it from?
As Danny Baker would say, I should have 'Turmoil' etched on my forehead. Brain ache.
Why don't we have nice viruses? Why no viruses that make you feel happy? You would have thought that good viruses would be more prevalent than bad viruses wouldn't you as you'd not worry about spreading them? Maybe being an Arsenal supporter is a virus..how do you know?

Orwell...his Animal Farm was based around a local farm and pub here (https://www.chalkfarmhotel.org/history - other flint stone built hotels are available) or so the locals, who speak in the 'oooh-aaah' Sussex dialect, would have you believe.
PS I love those little coincidences in life - after your Orwell bit, when I checked the Willingdon History facebook group (as you do), it showed a shot of the Red Lion pub in 1916 (https://www.facebook.com/groups/391403171744414 - not sure if that's publicly visible). The pub (and the water pump across the road) are still there today.
I thought the opposite. Two contradictory thoughts battling it out. Tangled barbed wire covered in post it notes. Different colours to make it easier to understand ,of course.

You can't have post-it notes - they can't be wiped clean. Oh, yeah, but actually we don't need to do that anymore - you can't catch it from surfaces now. So that's fine. As long as you don't sniff the post-its

OH had an interesting conversation with a new neighbour this morning about Covid. She is of the opinion that it is caught from cloud seeding in the rain and therefor you cannot catch it from other people and certainly not by droplet infection. OH had a scythe in his hand at the time.......she should be careful.
