Canadian scientists have isolated the virus.... this should pave the way for a vaccine..

No desire to be rude @Marlorena, but the virus was isolated in China several weeks ago and a vaccine is now undergoing animal testing. Sadly will still be at least a year before any vaccine is available, and then quite rightly its initial availability will be to key personnel.

Just a question everyone. They want us to slowly get this to keep the numbers in hospital lower, the rest of us self quarantine at home. Then they turn around and say those at home don't have to tell anyone they are doing this, unless it last more than a week, so how do they know enough people have had it to give us herd immunity if no one is keeping tabs on the numbers?🤔

They have closed mum's home to visitors which I think is a really good idea. My son in law is headmaster at a large secondary school and he is busy making plans in case the schools are closed.  Secondborn's school has decided that if they get to a stage where they don't have enough staff to keep all children in school they will prioritise those taking exams and the youngest children as they will be least likely to be able to stay at home alone.   My grandson's pre-school sent a letter asking all parents to drop children off at the door and not come in with them as they want to limit number of outsiders entering the building.  In the same letter was an invite for all parents to join them for tea and cake to celebrate mothers day.

As they are not pursuing testing in the UK we will have no data on infection stats. If asked "are your policies working" they can have no idea.

My understanding, @purplerallim, is that once the virus ‘peaks’, in terms of hospital positives and any surveillance testing, then we can say that the community is saturated - which will give enough numbers for immunity to be high.

The testing rules have and will be changing. I think there is a good argument to test healthcare workers, however, as it is reasuring that we know that we have immunity.

I think this has been the grey area of reports. We are told 'so' many have been tested positive but they are no longer testing most people unless admitted to hospital. I assume this is the same criteria used in Europe and indeed worldwide.

I assume all of these scientists and medics use statistics as to where we are. How else can they know. Is there some guesswork involved?

@punkdoc your input in this thread has been invaluable.

Morning all.   Once again, I’ve enjoyed reading everyone’s thoughts and advice, especially Punkdoc and Fidget. Hosta, you need to move to our drought ridden continent, I think, to get your supply of sun and bit D. 😃
