Watched a chap on youtube last evening showing how the World Health Organisation advise you can make your own hand sanitiser using rubbing alcohol, bleach, boiled water and vegetable oil. On another note my wife did the weekly shop in Lidl/Sainsburys this morning and says that it was "like Christmas" people emptying the shelves, bread, milk, of course toilet rolls, forget hand sanitiser there ain't none, plenty of fresh fruit and veg left though, oh! she had the last packet of pasta.

We did a shop yesterday, there were plenty of toilet rolls but no pasta! Haute-Garonne.

@wild edges  I think they just don't have enough data to know about things like immunity. This article suggests the virus is mutating and there are various strains in China.

It's the thing about corona viruses, isn't it? They mutate very readily.

I was talking to a couple of Italian friends yesterday. They are both resident in the UK now but their families are in various parts of the North of Italy, including Lombardy. One said her family are fine, just climbing the walls trying to keep the children entertained indoors. But the other's elderly Dad lives alone and she said he is very scared - he sits on his own watching the TV with wall to wall coverage of doom and gloom and he thinks death is inevitably coming. :/

One of the problems with medical stories in the general press, is that most of them are wrong.
Mutation is inevitable, all viruses mutate and usually fairly rapidly, that is why the common flu vaccine changes every year.

Be careful who you listen to, there’s a lot of lies and untruths being spread about.

    3. Home-made hand sanitiser

There have been many reports of shortages of hand sanitiser gel, as washing your hands is one key way to prevent spread of the virus.

As reports of the shortages emerged in Italy, so did recipes for home-made gel on social media.

But these recipes, alleged dupes for one of the country's most popular brands, were for a disinfectant better suited for cleaning surfaces and, as scientists pointed out, not suitable for use on skin.

If this virus can cause this much panic just think what one which killed otherwise fit and healthy people would do, the troops would be on the streets general disorder would be taking place the survivalists wouldn't look so silly then.

Making your own gel is really not a good idea, and seeing that soap and water are better, why bother.

It's for people on the move who travel in public transport in big cities they can't carry a sink with them so have a spray bottle of hand sanitiser.

I don't think that the "World Health Organisation" would be spreading false information.
