I think it's a waste of resources. If there are particular communities who still aren't aware of what's going on or of what they should be doing, then the government needs to work out ways of contacting those particular groups. Anyone else who isn't complying with the lockdown by now probably won't take any more notice of a letter than they do of tv, radio, internet, emails, texts or any other channels. Either that or if they don't already know what the rules are they're probably a hermit anyway.

Cheers Lyn. I have just come in from outside where I have been using antibacterial spray on the door handle etc to read your post. I have therefore gone out there again with Fairy Liquid. Belt and braces.

Any Corona viruses are just that, viruses, not bacteria’s.

You can scoff the source - I probably would - but antibacterial sprays are effective as well.

Don’t forget to sanitise your taps! Most of us don’t have automatic or hospital-style taps operated by a foot pump or by your elbow with a long lever and need to use our hands to turn them off and on. If you turn them on, wash your hands thoroughly then turn them off, you have just negated all that hand washing by re-touching the potentially infected tap and leaving the virus lurking for the next family member...

I got on to the dettol laboratory to ask, they said they hadn’t been given this virus to test yet and are going by previous ones, they said soap was the best but  dettol if you’re unable to use soap, such as being out.

The anti bac sprays and hand soaps are no better than ordinary soap. Better if they have pure alcohol in them, but they dry and evaporate very quickly.
Im sticking with washing up liquid on surfaces and soaps on hands.

The advice is to leave the letter for 24 hours before touching it, or read the letter, bin and wash you hands. The risk from paper is low.

The scientist who is testing the life span of the virus on different surfaces was speaking on the radio the other day, he said that the virus is detectable less on some surfaces than others, cardboard is less than metal or glass but that could be because when they try to lift the virus off of cardboard it has been absorbed into the cardboard and can't be detected but is still there.

Crikey, I realise you suffer from anxiety, but Steve, will you please pack it in. You're winding yourself up and helping nobody. If you feel bad about the letter, then don't open the letter. Or leave it for a week or a month, or whatever makes you feel better. And try and find some method to calm your anxieties.
