Unfortunately, there will always be nasty selfish people, murders, robbers, people spitting at front line workers, (when I was nursing I got hit quite a few times, threatened by patients, families) Dont think you would get away with it in a shop! Us old plebs always vote here, in parish, local and general elections. Saw a poll in the paper last week, almost 60% admitted to breaking the lockdown.
I have read all the comments on this thread and on the "Boo for Boris" thread, and believe me, I do understand the anger that so many people feel at the behaviour of Dominic Cummings. I made a point that a reason/excuse had been offered (that his son is autistic) and effectively there might be a claim for mitigating circumstances - case unproven. Without honesty and transparency from those involved (including the PM) then public reaction would be hostile. And so it has proved to be. Nevertheless, much of the anger has been stoked by the media, whose dislike of the man is well known. I posit that their attitude has led amount of reporting and the relentless coverage - a feeding frenzy as I described it. I asked questions. I did not take a side. I await the briefing (soon) to hear whether or not there was any justification (not excuses). It is at that time that we will all be better able to judge. For the record, I count myself extremely fortunate to know no-one who has had the virus, no-one who has been affected by a friend or relative who has had the virus and, therefore, my only way of judging is from that which is either on here or through the media. The incredible work done by all the key workers is fully recognised (at last) and I hope that it will continue to be so once, or if, we get to a more stable society, however different it becomes. I am no fan of this Cummings - he seems to wield undue influence with little accountability. By his own words will he be judged (I hope).
The safest thing for my child...that includes having problems with his eyesight and then putting the child in a car and driving 30 mins each way to a place?
The safest thing for my child - the advice was to not drive and it had already been said about breakdowns and accidents and at that point they thought the wife had it - and then confined the child and Cummings himself in with a suspected carrier for a 260 mile drive?
The safest thing for my child when we've all heard how fast this comes on - his wife was so unwell as to not be able to look after a child, but was ok for a 260 mile drive in car. How did he know he wouldn't feel appallingly bad half way through the journey there?
WHY then did he drive to check if he could make the trip back, but never thought he may have a problem driving to Durham?
I listened to the entire statement and I believe he did everything for the right reasons at the time. Why has it suddenly become an issue 2 months after it happened? One thing no-one seems to mention is the security aspect. His London home was looking like a target to people not agreeing with the lockdown.I think he was sensible in taking his family away from what could have been a very dangerous situation. Nothing he did warrants his resignation and he should now be left in peace.
On another note the journalists and photographers outside his home although wearing masks made no attempt at social distancing

This was exactly what I was thinking and I couldn’t believe none of the reporters asked this question. He said himself how quickly his wife became unwell.
