I think these test surveys are done weekly, aren't they? They provide a snapshot of how many people have Covid. Back in August my OH was sent a different one to test for antibodies. He tested +ve, which was as he expected.
Just a thought for anyone planning shopping/visiting/socialising - my local Critical Care hospital has run out of beds (and staff) - the situation is dire. I hope that Wales, at least, has the gumption to cancel the Christmas relaxation of rules. If the government don’t officially do this, I hope that the public will.
That's not good news @AuntyRach, hope the situation eases soon. We haven't made a final decision yet on whether or not to visit son + grandchildren over Xmas so I'm watching the statistics.
Oh heck @AuntyRach hope it improves soon. Sorry I didn't mean to bamboozle anyone @philippasmith2 in short the main test is very sensitive because it uses an amplification step making very small amount of virus detectable. The rapid tests which are being used to check students while good are not as sensitive because they do not have this step and use a different technology, the advantage of them is speed 1 hour or less versus around a day for a lab based test including travel time to get samples to the lab and results back. Your test will be the lab based one so if it is negative you can be confident you did not have the virus when you did the swab.

That does sound bad. Are you in one of the parts of Wales that is already in the news? Thank you for the warning. I know of a worrying number of positive tests over the past week here too, and hope people will act responsibly rather than simply 'according to the rules' over the next few weeks.

I know some people will hate this, but we have to shelve the plans for meeting at Christmas, it just does not make sense. No doubt the experts will be over ruled again.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
I admit were thinking of a limited get together if we all isolated beforehand, but we have given up on the idea. We will have a get together much later in 2021.

The GP’s words when my wife presented looking remarkably like a children’s dot to dot book. I think that constitutes a genuine allergic reaction.
