very very positive news today on a possible vaccine  available before Christmas 🎄 let’s keep everything crossed that this nightmare is coming to an end.

This was on Radio 4 a vaccine has been developed that works on 90% of patients without any adverse effects. It has been tested on over 40,00 people over 6 countries and should be ready by end of the month a few teething troubles but it shows a way forward is possible. I imagine vulnerable people will be offered the first vaccines. I have heard from a few people I trust that this will be over by the Spring. It’s looking possible now.
  • Don't think it's ever going to 'be over' ... it will be with us for generations to come,  but hopefully we can learn to manage and control it and 🤞 a 'new normal' is in sight ... thanks to the hard work and dedication of some amazing people. 🙏

Am I overthinking this, what about the 10% it doesn't work on and the thousands of people who don't ever have vaccinations and the people who think the virus is a hoax anyway.

Well the antivaxers will free up more vaccines for everyone else. A chance for them to be public spirited for a change.😕
    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • Well @floralies, I suppose that is always a problem with vaccinations ... but somehow we have to cope with that 10% ... and if it works for the rest of us, the dinosaurs who think it's a hoax can go ahead and catch it and give it to their loved ones and that'll be evolution working ... 😉

I have heard that 90% is a very high percentage according to scientists and if the vaccine helps vulnerable people to feel safe it’s going to be wonderful. I think herd immunity could then come into play as I doubt there will be enough vaccines for all of us. If life can return to what it was I will be a very happy bunny 🐰. This has been a very difficult year for so many of us. The end is in sight!!

    IMO hold your horses.

As usual the press have jumped on this far too quickly.

There are a number of hurdles to go through before the vaccine might be released.
The UK would only get 10 million doses in the first instance.

THE BIGGEST HURDLE, THE VACCINE NEEDS TO BE STORED AT MINUS 80 CENTIGRADE, WHICH WILL MEAN IT WILL NOT BE EASY TO FIND PLACES THAT CAN DELIVER IT.

It is another step in the right direction, but will not change anything imminently.
How can you lie there and think of England

Unfortunately, it may not only be their "loved ones" they will infect tho.

But if the rest of us have had the vaccine then there’s only the 10% that they can infect ... not perfect I grant you, but a helluva lot better than the current situation.
