I suppose folk who aren’t prepared to isolate when instructed will have to weigh up possible repercussions from employers, customers and neighbours should it be discovered that they’ve not followed instructions, and placed everyone they meet at risk.

I know that if I became ill having been infected by someone who should have isolated, I or my family would look at taking legal action against whoever knowingly and intentionally infected me ... the precedent is there with people who have knowingly infected partners with HIV.

If I’ve only been to one place ... at the moment I go nowhere ... and I’m sure the life insurance companies have got access to decent lawyers. In fact I know they have.

As I said ... it’s been done with HIV.

I think you would have to prove that the person who infected you knew they were infected? As this virus seems to be present without symptoms that would be difficult to do. Also you would need to prove that the person was infected at the time you interacted with them, also tricky. That’s why if you catch the flu and die nobody can sue anyone. Not an expert but that makes sense to me. AIDS is a very different situation

That’s the point ... you will be contacted and told you may have picked up Covid19 and you should isolate.
If you don’t isolate and we meet for coffee or wherever you could infect me.
If I develop symptoms and am tested I will be asked who I have been in contact with.
I will say I had coffee with Debs64.
They will put your name into their computer and say
’But Debs64 was told she might have picked up COVID ... she is supposed to be self isolating!’

You will know that you might be infected and you will have chosen to ignore the warning and place other people at risk. Knowingly ... that’s the point .., just like with HIV.

It just seems crazy that Wales isn't using the same system as England for any of this.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

I see. Obviously if I tested positive I would self isolate but as I could be infected without symptoms I cannot be constantly tested. I don’t have enough information to decide but I know many people are concerned about being “ tracked” by a government they don’t trust.

But how can I be sure that the person who contacts me is genuine? I can't, I also, don't answer numbers i don't know or open texts or emails I can't guarantee who sent.

They’ll get in touch with you somehow ... possibly via your GP ... I take it you answer calls from your GP?

If you keep ignoring them and all else fails I suspect they’ll send a police person to knock on your door. That’s how we in social services used to contact people who refused to respond to us

    It’s clear.

We must all follow our instincts...
    Precisely!
But everyone's instincts will be different though.
People assess risk differently according to their circumstances, age, health, family, character, location, job, travel and a million other reasons.

I can be tracked via my mobile phone. I check in every day giving a health report with the Kings College Hospital Covid Symptom Tracker as I’m part of their study. There are thousands of us. If we contract COVID they’ll be able to be pretty certain where it came from.
The scientists say they’re pretty sure they know how many cases there are out there. They just have to identify them then they’ll be able to track it through the population.

But the main point is, if you are told you may have COVID and you decide to ignore the instruction to isolate and you pass the infection on to me, or worse still ... a member of your family that you love ... and we die ... will you be able to live with yourself ... knowing it’s your fault ... you could have prevented it ... will you?

    I know I wouldn’t.
