We have an excellent " Ask My GP " service. It is similar to a chat online thing. Once you have registered you can send a message to, either, a particular person, (doctor/nurse etc) or if you don't name someone it is read by whoever's turn it is to manage it. During surgery hours you usually get the answer within the hour. I have used it many times.

Bit of a double edged sword but we have just seen our first Fieldfares in the Rowan tree over the back from us. Of course it could mean much more cold weather to come.

Surely all the presence of Fieldfares means is that the temperature in their Summer location has dropped far enough to force them to relocate.  It doesn't automatically mean very cold temperatures.  Just like masses of berries isn't a forecaster of severe weather, just evidence that the summer was good for flowering and fruit setting.

That's great news but how on earth did you get to see a GP??
I phoned the health centre, listened patiently to the jangly music and repeated assurances that everyone was busy and my call was no. n in the queue.  Asked the receptionist for a BP check, and he asked my why, as it wasn't being requested by a clinician, and I explained about my hand, and that raised blood pressure was in the family.  He gave me an appointment for Monday and said he would ask a GP to call.  She called later and said we shouldn't leave this over the weekend, and asked if I could come in at 4.30, which I did.

    It's good when the system works😊 .
Sometimes you can't even get as far as the queue.
Several large blocks of tiny flats have been built locally to the health centre. There doesn't appear to have been any additional provision for the hundreds of new residents

Our GP practice has been amazing and incredibly efficient this year.  They have a website and if you have any concerns you just fill in the online form and someone appropriate gets back to you by phone ... GP or pharmacist ... and you have an over the phone discussion and if needed a face to face appointment with a GP is made for within the next couple of days ... on one occasion for the same day.  When OH had a problem he did this, had the phone consultation with the GP, then a face to face appointment and examination and a scan was arranged for the following week. Fortunately nothing to worry about, but some physio was suggested ... the physio phoned later that day and made an appointment for a telephone physio session to take place the next day.

My repeat prescription is managed by our local Boots pharmacy who liaise with the GP practice ... it has all gone very smoothly ... they text me when the meds are in and OH pops down the road and picks them up.  If I need anything extra the Boots pharmacist liaises with the GP practice.  All very efficient.  I get a text if I need a blood test and can book this online, and it's all done in a very Covid-safe way.

    So it can be done.

All the time I was waiting to get through there was a message extolling the virtues of their online system. When I eventually spoke to the receptionist who advised me to try again tomorrow, I asked about how to get a code for the online system only to be told that the system had been suspended due to covid! They'd had several months to change the message or even to get their website sorted.

@Dovefromabove ours is the same as yours but it could be that we don’t live in a large town and so the country practices are coping better.

I don’t think anyone could cope better than our GP practice is @lyn

I would even go so far as to say that the service we get from our GP practice has improved in efficiency over the past 12 months. 😊

Our repeat meds could be done the same as yours Dove,  but I don't always need everything,  (some things are to be used as and when needed). I order what we need online and the prescription is sent electronically to Asda pharmacy,  ( my choice). I normally leave it until I do the weekend shopping to collect.
This time I ordered it OH had his medication changed before we collected it and the nurse contacted the pharmacy and had it changed for us.

@KT53 of course it means the temperature is very low in Scandinavia where they spend Summer,  if the airflow then comes to us from that direction we get colder weather too. I know it's not automatic but it happens often enough at this time of year to be a predictor. We have had cold this week haven't we?
    Anyway it's just a saying 😉
