  • Maybe try a different poison? When I had rats they thrived on the first one I used (and the mice ate their way into the bottle!) so I switched to something different which finished them off very quickly.
  • Local agricultural merchants stores  should know which ones the rats in your area are resistant to and which still work.

The majority of rat poisons act slowly and cumulatively. This is good because it means they return to their nest to die and don’t die out in the open air where they could be picked up and eaten by birds of prey, pets, foxes etc.

The only one that we’ve found to work is Neosorexa gold,  very expensive but you don't need a lot and it keeps for ages.
Roland, being an ex farmer is well up on rat control.

@lyn, I think you have to have certification to buy that one, at least that's what all the online sellers say. Probably why your O H says its the best, you have to know what you're doing.

Rain!   We have proper rain.   26mm/1" so far and still falling which is a lot for just a few hours but very welcome as it started slow and soaky.  It means I can finally spread the chipped bark on the bed under the silk tree and start weeding the rose beds and ruin beds and barn bed ready for bulb planting.

First tho I have a hen house to finish.  New residents arriving on Saturday, all being well.

  • Yeah, we had a decent shower around 6 this morning.  Friend next door and I going to nursery about 10 miles away, she doesn't drive and has never been there, left home brilliant blue sky, etc, got to the nursery, heavens opened, waited in car, treated myself to 4 cyclamin, all different colours.  Got back home, asked Hubby if he had had rain, nope.  Another little shower about 4 0 clock, plenty of water in butts from bungalow and greenhouse, and no need to water today, Oh joy!!!
  • Really heavy rain hammering on the flat studio roof like thunder!!!

Gareth the roofer came this morning, and worked non-stop replacing all the lost and damaged tiles.  He said there were about 60, and the old ones were hard to get out.  It took him about four hours.  Although it turned out to be a bigger job than he expected, he still only charged us the price he'd estimated.  One of the good guys.
