The shy robin in my garden is gradually being won round by my leaving chafer grubs on a nearby stump. To start with I'd have to retreat for several minutes before he'd come for the grub - by the end of the day he would come to within a metre of me if I stayed still.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
A shy robin? I have to look where I'm stepping when weeding the borders as my local robin doesn't wait for me to move if he sees something tasty. At least the blackbird stands back and cusses at me if I'm in one area too long.
I currently have a pair of robins and an 'interloper'. He's not taking no for an answer from the first one, and their little standoffs, with the neck stretching, are hilarious to watch.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
It would seem Belgian and French birds are very wary. 23 years gardening in our Belgian home, converting pasture to veg plot and garden and they all kept their distance despite feeders maintained all year and a growing colony of sparrows ending up nesting in our eaves and barn.
Here it's almost as bad tho I did notice last year when cleaning a bed to plant the toms that a robin got to 2m away to inspect the soil for grubs. Nothing that close this year.
Anyway - RTBC? Garden centres and plant shops can sell us plants and seeds as of today. Great news. I assume they'll have distancing rules and shorter opening hours, like the SMs.

Hoopoe singing softly this morning. They sound so mournful sometimes. I heard my first cuckoo call just now too. OH says they've been here a week already and he's heard them out on walkies.
