I purchased a water butt and fitted a length of gutter to the shed, due to all the rain it is full, there is no outside tap, so really is a good addition to the up and coming garden, I planted 2 of the 3 apple grafts, I have a friend who grows apples in Kent, I asked how far apart should I plant them, he said it doesn't really matter, he's are a meter apart, but those growers only grow them as a bush, I have maiden trees, I did what the horticulturist told me and dug deeply, filled hole with rotted manure and that root stuff who's name begins with M. I made sure the stakes missed the roots, they said diagonal stakes were best to secure, however so long as the wind does not shake the tree and keeps unsettling the root, then it's good, Need a break in this horrible rain now.
Wow! @pclark42 😊 You’re really getting a move on. 😊
Just one thing (just to relieve my anxiety) ... you’ve not planted those trees any deeper than they were growing originally have you?
You can usually see the soil mark at the base of the trunk just below the graft. If you scroll down and you look at the photo here of the ‘planting hole with level’ https://www.orangepippintrees.co.uk/articles/fruit-tree-planting-instructions just to confirm that yours aren’t too deep. Planting too deep can cause the trunk to rot and you’ll lose your tree. 😢
Don’t want that to happen so just check and put my mind at rest 😊

No the graft is well above the soil level, I went to the open day for grafting of fruit trees at Buckingham Garden Centre, it was really good and informative, they wanted me to graft my own, however, I declined because I wished to get a move on, so wanted one already taken if you know what I mean. The rain has stopped, I might try to get another fence panel up.
Five posts and four panels done, it's heavy work for a knackered old git like me, I was tempted to fit the cover on the polytunnel, but the wind has got up, the forecast is much better tomorrow, we shall see.
Well I eventually got the cover over, then settled in with a glass of vino to celebrate, then put some seeds into pots, let's see what comes of this lot, going for a heater tomorrow, however, it was lovely and warm inside it this afternoon.
