Saw goldfinches for the first time on my feeder today. Was well pleased as I've had it out (the feeder) since autumn without spotting any.

My birds are on rations now. I have gone through nearly 50 kg of sunflower seeds this winter mainly by the flocks of Goldfinches.

It certainly is @B3! We live in a very rural area so all the Goldfinches come to me. None of my neighbours in our small hamlet feed the birds so they zoom in to my garden!

Got another new visitor just now while watching the squirrel attack the bird feeder - could someone tell me what the bird on the right is please?

They seem to be doing well all over the place. It must be the feeders and the mild weather.

I've been using a finch mix but I've noticed that there's always loads of the round orange seeds on the ground. They seem to chuck them out to get at the other seeds. The birds that hoover up the fallout seem to ignore them too.
Can anyone tell me what the orange rejects are?
