So jealous! We saw our first ever goldfinch in this garden a week ago. We had loads visiting our previous home, but never see them here. This past fortnight, we have had at least four siskins eating sunflower seeds at the feeder. Despite their small size, they are quite aggressive to the chaffinches and other birds. Unlike the other birds, who take a seed and fly off, the siskins park themselves at the feeder and stuff their faces.

The goldfinches and greenfinches do exactly the same at my bird-feeder (sunflower seeds). The only birds that pick one seed and fly off to eat it at a distance are the tits.
We have them all year round here. Bad tempered little gits. 😁
I learnt last week it’s called a Charm of Goldfinches apparently which is a so delightful, and yes they squabble and fight the most of any birds in the garden, we have a group of 8 or 9 daily in the garden, and they fight like siblings constantly!
The golfinches appear to be deliberately chucking sunflower hearts out of the feeder. There's nothing else in there and all the seeds look the same to me. What are they up to? I was wondering if they're looking for broken bits to feed their young.
Well I have discovered that lupins don’t like to be under bird feeders🤣. I have (had) 4 lupins and the one that was under the bird feeder over winter has vanished, gone,no more, yet the other 3 next to where it was are growing away just fine. Not sure if it’s the droppings or the digging around the base, but whatever it is the lupin is no more.
