LB I completely understand it’s a shame a few idiots spoil things for kids, I love to see the creativity that goes into some of the costumes and at least the children are not sitting in the house glued to their electronics. The people either side of me don’t decorate and so the children don’t knock there. Would love to see photos of your besties decorations

Morning all, and brrr it's a chilly one 😬❄.
Tried turning the tide on my self imposed media blackout this morning and switched on beeb breakfast for the first time in months, wish I hadn't bothered.😒

Debs, those pumpkins with the circular cut out patterns are really easy to do with an apple corer. I did some one year when OH bought too many pumpkins and I ran out of design ideas for scary faces.
Haven't bought even one this year but have got some sweets in for the trick or treaters.
I think I've lost my Halloween mojo now the girls have grown up.

Morning - cold bright & sunny here. May try for a couple of hours in the garden although I also have to sort out both car and house insurance and do a big cook up to fill the freezer - we’ll see.

We don’t ‘do’ Trick or Treating either. The village is very spread out and we are quite a long way down a no-through lane with no pavements. There are no street lights at all in the village and our road is particularly dark and muddy to walk down. There are less than a dozen small children in the village and the church usually organises a well supervised ‘spooky party / BBQ’ in the graveyard with lots of carved pumpkin lanterns.

It’s a safe way to allow the children to participate in Halloween without disturbing the other village residents - many of whom don’t like answering the door after dark to unexpected visitors.

The display of carved pumpkins in your picture is very pretty LB.

Nice to ‘see’ you Debs - sorry to hear you’ve been having a tough time. Good news on the work front though!

SGL - the cough is the worst thing about the strain of lurgy doing the rounds at the moment. Hope you feel better soon.

Best get on with stuff. SYl 👋

That’s gorgeous MU, is Samhain anything like the Mexican Day of the Dead? If so it’s a lovely idea, I don’t go too spooky more cute don’t want to scare the little ones. It’s a shame it’s all so commercial these days I anticipate Happy Halloween greeting cards very soon! I suppose most pagan festivals are inappropriate for children as they were obviously originally for adults!

Morning all.  Very frosty and the redwings have arrived on the huge holly.  That signals the start of winter for me.

The Hallowe'en of my youth was going out guising....home made costumes, doing your party piece then dooking for apples and trying to get a bite from a scone, dipped in treacle, hanging from a string.

Still love that purty pumpkin MU. 😍
Joyce, my mum used to hang apples off a string. Your treacle dipped scones sound much more fun.😀

When I was fourteen . My boyfriend Barry was invited to to tea on Hallowe’en. He came on his bike . We had a lovely tea . Parkin an d toffee apples for pud . My mother made them .When he got on his bike some naughty person had covered the saddle in treacle. The lads pants were a real mess .That was the end of a budding romance .

Oh Ruby 😂. Poor Barry, shouldn't laugh really, I bet they were his best pants.

I bet his mother was fuming 😡. I don't envy her trying to wash the treacle out.

I must say we've never been 'tricked', thank goodness. Have given out plenty of treats and spooked a few kids over the years though. 👻
