Oh yes what to do with tomatoes! Well one thing I do with them is turn them into salsa, like the salsa you buy in little jars to eat with crisps. I use tomatoes, onions, garlic and green peppers all from the garden and vinegar and sugar from the shop! Yesterday I used 8kg of toms 8 red onions, 500g peppers, 2 bulbs of garlic, 500ml vinegar and 300g sugar. that made 14 400ml jars full. I took half the tomatoes and boiled them, then pushed them through a sieve and boiled that down by about 70% the other tomatoes which were san marzano I pealed and chopped along with the onions and peppers. put everything into a saucepan and boiled for about 15 minutes before putting into clean jars. I then boiled the sealed jars for 10 minutes in a large saucepan.
I also make chopped tomatoes like the tinned ones and put them into jars, and if I still have tomatoes left over then it's time for frozen pasta sauce, or just compost!
Being too busy this year to grow from seed I cheated and bought the plants from Dobbies Out of chocolate cherry, sungold, tigrela, and green zebra. I ended up with several plants of each.the parts that you nip off I let these get to around 12 inches.after breaking them off I put them in water .I'm no time roots were coming .so I replanted them in another plant pot .this made no difference to the main plant .they all produced a good crop.with not having time to wait for roots at the later months I dipped the end in rooting powder and planted as normal . powdered ones did ok too. Out of them all the green zebra were the nicest tasting and the most decorative fruit and a yellow and green stripe.though at this stage they don't keep so well .not a problem in our house!!!!!
