raisingirl need to pop out and get some lemons and celery salt. Have just pick about 5 or 61b of tomatoes so will wash them and make to sauce when I get back. Thank you for the link.
Thanks for that one raisingirl, I'm making some ketchup at the moment. I think the tomato fairy was out last night there were loads to pick today. I have several of the blue trays that the market traders have with things like mushrooms in, I have filled one today and no dought there will be the same tomorrow. These are a mix of cherry and yellow delight. I have another one of these boxes with alicante tomatoes in, just offered some to a neighbour and she said no thanks you don't know what been on them when I asked what she meant she said rats or mice. Think she had better stop eating food,I wonder where they grow the food she buys.
What do people think, that food is grown a a hermetically sealed box? If they knew what "things" have been sprayed or touched their shop bought food they would probably never eat again.🤣
I agree there purlerallin, They were straight off the plant couldn't be fresher, she seemed to think they were grown in polytunnels. I told her rats and mice still get in there but she insisted they are not aloud to get in. Just took a load up to the sheltered housing most of them had a few each and they were please. I definitely won't be growing so many tomato plants next year.
I am now getting 4 large colanders a day of tomatoes to process - drying in the oven or reducing down to bottle as passata. Just been out and bought 5 more litres of olive oil for the dried toms and also to make flavoured oils while the herbs are fresh and strong.
Can't be doing with jam as we hardly eat it. Used to make lots of rhubarb chutney and chili jam but we're still eating old stock so none of that this year. There will be beetroot, orange and chili preserve in a week or so. Just a question of time.....

Odelixx, I looked for bigger bottles of olive oil but could only find 1 litre bottles. While on the hobs I was making tomato ketchup in the oven there were trays of tomatoes drying I put some of the dried one's into freezer bags so I can just pull a few out and use. Also made some tomato puree and put that into ice cube trays. We only use jam in the winter when I make steamed pudding or other pudding with jam. I have a few beetroot ready to pull but we don't like them pickled so they might go into a cake or two.
I don't like pickled anything so the beetroot, orange and chili stuff is right up my street. Also like it in bhajis, baked with butter beans and cream flavoured with horseradish, chocolate cake and brownies, spiralised raw and dressed with vinaigrette.......

I usually make tomato pickle, but the hubby has gone off it so its sauces this year. I'm pleased I dont have as much produce to process as you @Obelixx it's taking me all my time to do my small veg patch.😁 Yes the jam is for the winter on toast, in rice puddings and sponge puddings. That is if I can keep the hubby off it.😁
Reading what foods you have it looks really interesting and healthy. I have only over the last few years managed to get my son to eat more fresh fruit and veg which is one of the reason I'm growing more. He acknowledges that the food I grow has a better taste than that bought at the shops. When we go away I normally buy fresh fish on the day we're coming home, only enough for that day but I might buy more and freeze it, he said even that tastes better. I am lucky that about 45 mins drive from us is a place where they sell all their own home reared meat.
