Good for her @Dovefromabove When I did the extension for this house, I replied to all the builders who showed interest. Two of them were told they wouldn't be getting the job if they couldn't even address me correctly, as I was not Mr. *********.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I have the distinct feeling that sexism reigns in rural Ireland... the surveyor who's trying to get builders to quote for our extension wanted to talk. I explained Hubby was in England until Wednesday, but that it would be fine to discuss things with me; he thought it would be better to wait until after Wednesday...
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Neither in Belgium nor France have I had problems with people wanting to speak to OH rather than me about hobs in the house or garden tho I can be naughty and tell people calling about insurance/home improvements/other cold calling that I couldn't possibly agree to any of that without OH and could they please address us in writing as his French is poor. Works every time.

Maybe I didn't explain the use of sexism. I think differentiating between the sexes gets conflated with discrimination at times. That comments are classed as sexist when they are just part of that difference. Does that make sense? I still see two genders as being different - and maybe I'm just too old to be told we're all the same. That doesn't mean I think that discriminating against anyone on the basis of gender is ok.
If I dressed up it was to play Cowboys and Indians ... even when they’re little children recognise what pleases their parents ... little girls in princess dresses get told they’re pretty ... many parents will laugh if they wear a policeman’s helmet with a tutu and tell them that those don’t go together.
I escaped all that as Ma never told me I was pretty in case I became as vain as her dippy cousin. 🙄 I definitely wasn’t encouraged to wear pink or frills. 😆
Years later I had reason to appear at a village fete in a pink tutu, fishnet tights, red peep toe stiletto shoes, a policeman’s jacket and helmet ... I was about 26 years old ... I had a lot of fun 😉 🤣
Have you got any pictures of you in the fish net stockings and the peep hole stilettos 😍😍😍😍😍 didn't think we're that kind of woman; though you were a lady 😀😀
Of course there's a wide spectrum - there is in any species. But that doesn't stop gender difference does it? Gender difference is there - how one gender attracts/interacts with the other gender varies - but gender difference is what makes it work.
And I know what the definition of sexism is (I did actually look it up before making the post..honestly!) - it's how that term gets conflated with non-sexism things (IMO) that I find wrong - and hence why I split discrimination out in my post.

I accept your explanation that you didn’t intend to condone prejudice or discrimination ... however that is the generally accepted definition of the word ‘sexism’. https://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/sexism
