Love that bit at the end about planting seed and harvesting fruit and yes, some people have addictive personalities and find the strangest things to meet that need. Anything rather than recognise and address the problem.
I have a horticultural grump. Senior SIL bought me a Traviata rose 18 months ago. I have planted it in prime position in the middle of the long bed of my new rose garden and it has finally settled in and produced new growth and fat rose buds. We have had a few showers lately and every single bud is a baller and remains resolutely half open and looking miserable! Even going out and removing the soggy outer petals doesn't help.
That's an annoyance @Obelixx, hopefully the rose will be better in the summer. I find my Claire Austin is also a sinner this time of year.
I've also got a grump. it's warmer here this morning and supposed to be dry so I thought I would pop down to the nearby school garden I look after to tidy up for the winter and plant some left over tulips. A big black cloud is currently in sight so I'm having to wait to see what it will do. Â
In Belgium, I had to show that Possum had had all the vaccinations suitable for her age before she was allowed to start Maternelle aged 30 months and there were regular check-ups all thru Primary to make sure the vaccinations were up to date. Â
Nobody there could undertsand the fuss about MMR in the UK or the Americans who think it's all a big Pharma conspiracy to make money.
My kid had some of his playgroups cancelled due to a local measles outbreak. Not a problem for us but the people who run the groups lost out and the venues that rent out the spaces. I blame Facebook for spreading the anti-vax nonsense again. I hope the parents got a serious dressing down by the doctors. They act like it's their choice but it has a much wider impact.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
They haven't a clue @wild edges. I blame Faceache and it's sundry acquaintances for a lot of the cr*p that's spread everywhere nowadays. I know of someone who ended up being accused of allsorts because of a ridiculous 'story' that got out of hand very quickly. Â Â
That's where a lot of people get their 'news'. They haven't got the wit to read around the subject. There's a lot of peer pressure amongst the yummymummies too. What disgusts me is the utter selfishness of those who hope to benefit from the now non-existent herd immunity whilst putting children who, for genuine reasons, cannot be vacinated at severe risk.
I'm not sure that Facebook isn't just a symptom. The problem with humans is that they are flocking animals. In the old days, you could tell a person's class by the paper they read. They read that paper because it reinforced their particular prejudices. BUT the news that people listened to then had an ameliorating effect. We all do this.
The net raised this 'bubble' effect to new heights. Not only are you now surrounded by the 'newspaper effect' - ie your smart devices are all pumping out whatever prejudices you have (and that's not prejudice in a prejorative way) 24x7, but you now get your news from sources that you like because they reinforce your prejudices. That ameliorating effect of independent news source also disappears. So now you listen to people who think they the same as you - and you reinforce those people's prejudices in the same way that they reinforce yours. It becomes a semi comfort blanket as you end up thinking you're right as all the info you're getting agrees with your point of view.
To top it off, all the big software companies also then track what you look for and what you're interested in - so they promote more of the same to keep you using their services as they think that is what you're interested in. The bubble. Grim eh?
No wonder conspiracy theories abound and popularist movements gain so much ground so quickly. We are all just starlings in some amazingly bizarre murmuration.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

I agree with you too @B3
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
