I just added up all the vine weevils I squished since the start of August and it comes to a grand total of 283. :#

Cute wee mouse @wild edges. I no longer have mine. I wonder why. Oh - let me see - could it be the r*ddy cats that are out 24 hours a day. The scratch marks on the paving near the feeders would tend to suggest it. If I leave that water scarecrow off for a couple of days they just come back like a shot  >:)

That's a lot of weevil action....

A cat has been staking out that feeder quite regularly sadly and I've had to chase it off a few times. I think it belongs to a family who've only just moved here so it might get the message that it's not welcome eventually. Assuming my nocturnal activities haven't scared it off already :#

My little mouse had a home somewhere in the ivy/shrub clad fence where the feeders are. I could watch him nipping in and out from there into the caged feeders, often during the day. He was obviously around on the ground at night too of course, which is how it's happened.  It's made me ridiculously sad about it. Gave me a lot of pleasure watching him.  :'(

This was years ago when the cage was very basic. Not sure it can be the same mouse though

I'm even crosser tonight - the laptop repair people told me it could be another fortnight in the repair clinic so I (politely) told them what I thought about that. Don't suppose it will do any good but it made me feel a bit better.  I want to be able to lounge in my recliner in comfort in the sitting room and 'chat' to you lot. Sitting in this office chair makes my back ache, so can't do it long.

Haven't you got access to a seven year old? They usually have enough computer smarts to hack the Pentagon.

20 weevils tonight so I've cracked 300 now. :|  Ironically they're loving the sedum flowers. Why kill something you enjoy feeding on? I also wonder where the rest of them are. If I find 10-20 every night then there must be hundreds of them lurking about but why do I only find a few?
I found all 3 hawkmoth caterpillars though and they're all looking good. The brown ones are huge now but greeny is still way behind them. Hopefully he still has time to bulk up before it gets too cold. I've been tempted to move him to a bigger patch of willowherb but I wouldn't be able to check on him then.

Can toddlers be trained to hunt weevils? If they're not going to sleep at night they could at least do something useful with the time rather than keep me up for entertainment :|

It's official, I just had my first Xmas related email spam. Summer is over :|  Sadly I can't afford a £250 whisky advent calendar. I'm not sure what the etiquette is with an alcoholic advent calendar either. Normally I open the calendar in the morning, put the chocolate on the kitchen counter and the Xmas elves have eaten it before I've finished breakfast. I've never seen them but my wife has. Does one enjoy a dram with one's cornflakes or does one risk the elves and leave it until one is sat down in the evening in the drawing room wearing a smoking jacket as is proper?
