I had mice in a room full of stored household furniture etc. and wish I'd used a physical trap because they died in the nest which I had to locate somewhat later by using my nose to trace the pong..
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
Any way you can borrow a cat for the night? They will sniff-out and sort-out, if you don’t mind the potential of a few ‘leftovers’ which the cats often leave. Hope you can resolve it.
You'll have to find out where the little rodents are entering your house and make sure they can't continue to use it like a fast food joint. I realise that might be tricky if you are having building work done but unless you can stop up the gaps, they will continue to come in and pinch food. We had mice coming in through damaged airbricks.
There is a poison which dessicates the corpse so no pong. Have a look at the range on sale and see what the info says. The one I'm thinking of has poisoned grains stained blue so birds don't go for it if you need to use it outside. Can't tell you the name, sorry, as the product I used was last bought in Belgium a few years ago.

I'd second the cat idea. We had a mouse in the house once. One morning there were a few mouse droppings on the kitchen floor. The next morning (before I had chance to get to the shops to buy a trap) there was a dead mouse on the kitchen floor and a very pleased-with-herself cat. Our cats are indoor cats due to traffic and they don't normally get the chance to catch anything bigger than a moth or spider, so I was quite surprised that she'd killed it cleanly and not mauled it at all. No sign of mouse since then.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
Definitely mouse. The problem is they can get in by a hole as small as a pencil hole. Snap traps are the best as you then know if it's one, a breeding pair, or a family of mice. Not nice to do but necessary, Mars bars or peanut butter are the best bait. Best of luck @Pete.8

Good luck with it @Pete.8. They can be a ruddy nuisance if they're in the house.
You'll be forever checking anything with seeds in it before eating....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Hope you can resolve it.
I'm sure my dog would have a lot of fun if I hired a cat for the night
I'd rather get a humane trap, but I'm stuck without my car too at the moment so I'll have to use the poison and hope for the best!
