We had a dog lead and collar taken by a Fox from outside the house. I found them months later, in pieces, and buried in various bits of the garden. They clearly saw the leather as food.

We never leave any leather items (shoes, etc) outside overnight any more.

I found  fingers of my gardening glove poking out of the soil .  I thought I'd found a dead body.
I've given up leaving odd shows out the front in case someone wants them back. They could've come from anywhere
    In London. Keen but lazy.

When we first moved to France we had Stone Martens in our roof, we couldn't leave gardening shoes outside, we used to find them in all sorts of places including on the roof. They are no longer around now mainly due to being hunted and loss of habitat.

Passers-by probably think they're trophies from the dead bodies you keep partially burying in your flowerbeds.
