Is there anywhere in Britain that isn't under a flight path?

Well you do get use to it
We get NATO and Spy planes landing at RAF Waddington
We also get The Battle of Britain planes , Spitfire , Hurrance , Dakota & Lancaster ,  based at RAF Conningsby fly over , plus the Propeller plane they retrain Jet pilots on to fly these old planes
Typhons are also based there and they are noisy but amazingly fast
North of Lincoln at Scampton is the Red Arrows base  but only occasionally see them
At least they are more interested than Commercial Planes

Just very occasional RAF training flights here ..... and very distant vapour trails from 'planes.

Tractor noise at harvest time but probably more horses pass our house than cars.

No street lights (hurrah!) so great for stargazing when it's clear.

Nice neighbours but a couple of acres away so never really any noise.

We love it here  3 and know we are very very lucky.

We need another good volcanic ash cloud. Remember how blue the skies were during that brief lull in plane activity?
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

I see there is a programme on BBC4 next week (Tues, Weds & Thurs at 8pm), "Plane Spotting Live", where they are asking viewers to help map the flights going overhead to build up a map.
Could be interesting, although l don't know how many people will be watching BBC4 !

No planes here, very occasionally we'll see a light aircraft about once a year it seems, and again about once a year we'll get a military radar plane flying laps around us.
But every couple of months the tractors will be running past the house every 30minutes until 1 or 2am when they are emptying the slurry tanks. in spring there will be 20-30 tractors a day going past I expect it will be the same at harvest. and on a week end we'll get 100+ motorbikes often in huge groups of 30+ coming past. and during the week the fish lorries all come through around 6am.

Personally I lie in bed listening to the tractor/trailer and am just glad it's not me still going after 20 hours plus! which reminds me I must find out who owns the orange Renault tractor, he waves to me every day.

This house is much noisier than the last one which only had a train go past once an hour. but we needed the busier road so have to put up with the vehicles on it.

The Red Arrows flew right over my house the other week so low I could nearly see the pilots it sent shivers up and down my spine, I guess it was what used to be called patriotism which is out of fashion at the moment.

Many years ago, they were at a display at what is now Gloucestershire Airport.  I was watching from my bedroom window when one flew straight across in front of me, like you say @barry island, l could see the pilot, it was so low.
I very much doubt that would happen today !

There an “apt “ that can tell you what planes are flying over you and where they are from and destination

A suggestion for Fire....when I get woken by barking dogs, my arm shoots out and I prod the husband, who (says he doesn’t mind btw) puts on a 1 hour recording of pink noise. I then spend 5 minutes wondering why we put this rubbish on...and then I fall asleep. I’ve certainly never got to the end of it, and I used to just lie there getting more and more annoyed at the neighbours/dogs and miss lots of sleep.
Google it and have a go.

We don't get any jet plane noise, just the odd light aircraft from the local air field and the two spitfires that you can pay to go up in, for a flight out and around the island and up Southampton water. Costs between £2000 & £4000 depending what you want, I would highly recommend if you can afford it or as a present for someone special .
