Plenty of heavy rain here in sunny Gloucester, especially over night on two occasions, woke me up beating off the window, when I looked it was running down the road!
Water butt on the garden shed had been filled up,though I used half to water the borders to get them back to normal!
You're seriously still watering the garden?!
  • Two weeks ago, Thames Water had sent an e-mail that even it had rained so much, just 6% are filled up where they get the water from.
The day before yesterday, they sent an e-mail that the hosepipe ban is lifted. The curve is now going almost straight up to what it should be.
This was clear. Once the upper levels are filled, the water level raises quickly down below.

    I my garden.

If we have anymore rain I'm going to start building an ark.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

We've still got a hosepipe ban, but it's no bother now because October and November (so far) have been good and wet - 112mm and 105mm respectively, around double the long-term averages for those months.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

169mm for October and 222mm for November here so far. November last year only had 30mm.

There are flood warnings for low lying areas around here, but they are areas which flood every year.

Sorry I missed your post until now Mike.

Yes I was still watering as the soil in my garden and plot were dust dry then.

Now after all this rain the soil is perfect both in the garden and plot, when doing some digging I had to use a spade as the soil just dropped through the fork tines.

Nature has a way of correcting its self over time, no matter what the doom merchants say!

    Cheers!

Yes, I remember the forecast that the drought will go into October, but in fact, it ended with the hosepipe ban as usual. Or somebody in the forum here said they forecast a dry winter.

Cornwall has had such a tough time these last few years. Even now their reservoir storage is only at 55%.  Wishing them - and all of us - a wet winter. The rest of England seems to be doing pretty well re rainfall. We certainly missed a bullet this year in dodging the European fry. So many of our trees couldn't have taken another very dry, hot summer. I always hope that we can better value our temperate climate, our greenery and our beautiful rain.
