  • I have come to the conclusion that if its 3  people 110 per person plus vat comes to the 396. 330 doesn’t sound so bad. Tax is tax.

Where I live there are community gardening schemes.  Volunteers assist the elderly and disabled to manage their gardens.  I am also aware that some Age UK regions have a similar set-up.

I appreciate that such a charitable arrangement isn’t going to solve the current problem of clearance but at least it might be able to keep the maintenance ticking over such that £400 or so doesn’t become an annual outlay.

to be really useful for finding recommendations for reliable local tradesmen and women ... maybe there’s some local gardeners who could help in future.

Are you in a rural area @Lsinshirley ?  There are various community schemes round here as well that help the elderly.  Are social workers involved next door as well?  - they might have a list of reputable tradespeople.
