    I have a bit of commercial experience with these sorts of companies. What exactly are they doing just strimming? or weeding....if it does is there  bindweed, bramble to be removed etc as its unclear fron the picture. If it purely strimming of the one lawn as shown id suggest its on the expensive side of things

    Do you know how many men they are providing?
    Don’t know how many men. Starting work at 7.30 am. Possibly 3 or 4. The hedge on right trimmed and taken away. The grass is more weeds than grass. Maybe a few brambles, not excessive though. A budlea from the local railway line that  would take seconds to lop. I think I started listening when she said the company was named after his daughter as his daughter suggested it. It just set alarm bells off. Apparently they have a flat rate and can do every other week. I asked oooo what do they charge then if it’s a flat rate. They can’t charge the same every other week. She doesn’t know. I told her not to let them do any more than agreed. Only so much a nosy neighbour can do 😬

    They need to ask for details of other customers so that they can check.

    I priced a gardener about 5years ago, just to cut the grass, he wanted £50.00 per hour. That would have been £100.00 to cut my grass if he brought a drive on mower and whizzed around quickly, there were no other gardeners to be had in this area.
    I paid £1,000.00 to have a sycamore tree felled. It’s expensive work these days.
    Lyn that’s shocking. My mom pays £5 every other week for her postage size front garden. Admittedly it takes minutes so could calculate at £50 per hour. Thankyou for your comments x

    Woah! Gardeners (proper ones, not the slash & burn ones) charge £20-30 an hour here now. They must have been chancing their arm.

    @B3 I've found a very reasonable tree surgeon, comes highly recommended locally. Admittedly I'm not having any major work done but I probably will in the winter. If he lives up to his reputation I'll pass on the details.

    The going rate for jobbing gardeners round here is £12 - £20 an hour. A full day’s work would be £125 - £200. If your neighbour is paying £400 I would expect one worker for rather best part of three days, or at least two if they were providing more expensive tools and taking waste away.

    Our gardener, who also does our ironing in the slacker months of the year, charges £15 an hour. The handyman/decorator/electrician/fence erector/builder/jack of all trades charges £25 an hour but that drops to £20 an hour if he’s here for the full day.

    For simple tree surgery we pay about £60 - £100 an hour but there is usually a gang of two or three. Taking down about 5 diseased elm trees last year cost £700 if I remember correctly. Our landscape gardener, who did a lot of work for us a couple of years ago, told us he priced jobs on the basis of £50 an hour + VAT for the two of them (and Dave is to digging what N’golo Kante is to Chelsea’s midfield).

    Thanks @LG_. It's going to need a prune in the next couple of years. I would like to avoid the gentlemen who will do you a car park in a day😉

    @Lsinshirley if its a full day for 3 men that a fair price for that sort of job 125-150 per man per day isthe going rate dependent on your region

    @pansyface That's a sensible warning. It's happening here too.

    It's a real shame she has no sons, daughters or grandkids who could help out the elderly. Modern world problems
  • Thanks everyone for your comments. A lesson to myself, move to a manageable home before I get too old. (Quite a few years off that ) I have decided I will start looking at 60. Inside neighbours house is very sad. The son bought and got fitted a stair lift for his last mother’s day present to her. Bless.
