how Much to clear a garden

This is not my garden, I just want to make sure my neighbour is paying the right money for the job. Last year she paid 600 but it did include removal of trees. This year she is using a different company. 400. All rubbish taken away via drive through at back. I just wanna put my mind at rest that it’s reasonable. I will post a picture.  She is an old dear who is housebound.  I apologise if this is not something suitable for this forum.

Im not sure on the price, doesn't sound that cheap tbh, but then hard to tell what needs doing from the photo.

Just wanted to say it might be worth suggesting she pay somebody to come once a month for an hour or two and just cut the grass and tidy it a bit, would probably work out cheaper and maybe take some of the worry of it getting so out of hand away for her
  • Thankyou for your comment. She has tried to get people out to do a couple of hours every other week but nobody seemed to want to do it. Appreciate your comment x

Do the councils down south cut housebound/old people's gardens?

The best way to gauge an honest price is to ask several companies; 3 at a minimum. Has she done that? At least year’s clearance price and then £400 this year, she could surely have had the whole thing patio’d over. Whatever is in there seems very fast growing to need to be completely cut down every year!

It’s nice of you to look out for your neighbour :)
Thankyou. Next time I see her I will tell her next time to get 3 quotes. She seems happy to pay it and it looks a lot of work so is probably reasonable. Must be so hard stuck in looking at it. Once tidied it will make her smile, so will be worth it. I will also tell her to keep trying to find someone who she can pay hourly. I wish I had time to help. 👍

I don’t think they do, but it is a good point. I will email and ask.  She is a member of the church and they seem to be helping her a lot since her live in son / career passed last year. Although they don’t seem to have any gardeners amongst them.

If all trees have been cut then it just needs strimming . £400 is too much for that, especially since the garden will look exactly the same this time next year if nobody is mowing it.

Long term for someone who can't mow it it needs to be slabbed so she should get a quote for that, they shouldn't even mind about the grass as it will all need digging up.

I have a bit of commercial experience with these sorts of companies. What exactly are they doing just strimming? or weeding....if it does is there  bindweed, bramble to be removed etc as its unclear fron the picture. If it purely strimming of the one lawn as shown id suggest its on the expensive side of things

Do you know how many men they are providing?

Pruning one large tree by a professional cost me £400 a few years ago. But that was London prices.

I priced a gardener about 5years ago, just to cut the grass, he wanted £50.00 per hour. That would have been £100.00 to cut my grass if he brought a drive on mower and whizzed around quickly, there were no other gardeners to be had in this area.
I paid £1,000.00 to have a sycamore tree felled. It’s expensive work these days.
