A note re: forum moderation

Hello everyone.

It seems we're having one of our periodic outbreaks of bickering and general grumpiness on the forum.

While it's inevitable that disputes break out in any online community, if it continues we're going to revert to the stricter 'no bickering' policy that we've used in the past.

We don't have the time (or inclination) to get involved in the detail of arguments between members, or to take sides. Instead, we'll start routinely closing or deleting threads when needless, unproductive arguments break out. If any members persist in starting arguments and stoking conflict then we'll have to start the tedious business of issuing warnings, muting them and then ultimately removing accounts (regardless of how longstanding or prolific a forum member they are).  We really don't want to start doing doing this. Apart from being time consuming it's also really boring.

Please help us to avoid this unnecessary situation by:

  • Remembering that this is a gardening forum - a place to help each other, swap ideas, share enthusiasm (not a place to pick fights or argue about Brexit  - there are plenty of other message boards available for that).
  • Resisting the temptation to respond to every provocation.
  • Using the 'ignore' function if somebody particularly annoys you.
That said, do please flag up any content that you think is inappropriate or that contravenes our code of conduct. Please bear in mind, though, that we're not going to spend all day getting involved in arguments - we have a gardening site to make.

Many thanks,

Daniel Haynes

Thanks Daniel. The whole subject was becoming ridiculous.

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

Act like children, get treated like children. Got it.

If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

Its pretty well moderated over here @philippa smith2 ... a couple of hours of soft rain overnight and today blue skies, sunshine and a gentle breeze  😎

You've put that all very tactfully Daniel!

Personally, I've just been shouting at the screen for people (some of whom have been forum members for years and should know better) to grow up and behave. Very sad that you've needed to step in at all IMO.
