Thank you Dov, you are quite correct, we can have differences of opinion, Obelixx, I am no looking for stuff to compalin about, rather rude of say you cant trust the opinion of a Daily Mail reader! I used to read the observer and he Times at work, pretty much the same news just writen in a slightly different format, my hubby likes the Sun for the crossword, I cant stand it, but then theres The daily Star!!!Thats the kind of thing I am meaning snobby comments. about my choice of reading matter.Look at what people are offended by these days, pretty much everthing eems the younger generation, words, sayings I grew up with arent allowed anymore, Dr asks woman to remove veil, hes racist, transgender toilets, because one person complains.  My late Mum didnt look like the queen, she was young, slim and auburn hair when she died at 64.

Thanks I just feel class is a thing of the past for most of us and I would no more judge people by their affluence or accent than I would by the colour of their skin or the God they worship. There are good and bad in all walks of life I judge people by their behaviour and try to be tolerant if I can, if we were all the same it would be a very full world!

I see I am not the only one causing a bit of a rumpus on here then!!I dont see colour of skin, just how interesting the presenters are.  Yes, there is enough about MPs in the paper, cant be doing with it on here, all you need is the 4 letter word and it will revile Mumsnet!
  • Out of interest I just did the class test and apparently I'm Technical Middle Class, a small, distinctive and prosperous new class group. I mix socially with people similar to myself - the only occupation in my circle of friends that I could tick was artist, and I'm definitely not that or similar to it!
Allegedly I work in science, research or a technical field....I'm a former civil servant.....
I also enjoy emerging culture such as going to the gym or using social media. I'd say neither of those things is an emerging culture, and whilst I use Facebook, I don't go to a gym, but I do have an exercise bike in the basement, and I do use it, honest!

Back on topic, I've never fancied Chelsea because it always struck me as a bit upmarket and it always looks really crowded. To be fair I've never properly watched the TV coverage and don't know the names of any garden designers, well apart from Diarmuid Gavin (?spelling) cos I saw his TV series years ago.
Now I've got this huge garden and lots of time (ha ha) I am more interested in wider gardening things beyond just keeping on top of the weeds so things like Chelsea creep more into the consciousness.

I live too far from Chelsea to justify the trip, but from the GW coverage of the Malvern show I could quite fancy a trip there. Will have to persuade my OH to take a little holiday in the area to coincide with the show sometime.... In the meantime I might now check out the Chelsea coverage on the iPlayer - maybe I am technical middle class after all, embracing the emerging culture of catch-up TV ...😂

Don't forget the Scottish garden show - http://www.gardeningscotland.com/  The team from Beechgrove Garden will be there filming so it will be on Beechgrove if you can't get there.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

  • I spotted that when googling for garden/flower shows in Scotland. Might have to bookmark it for next year as it's 3.5 hours away so would need to sort somewhere to stay the night before really, otherwise it would be a hugely long day. OH has relatives in Fife so we might beg a bed there, though possibly too last-minute for next weekend.

Re Beechgrove, I couldn't find the new series on the iPlayer, only the story of Beechgrove. I ended up looking in the Scotland A-Z and only then found it has changed its name this year! I was looking for the Beechgrove garden and of course just the word Beechgrove didn't come up in the quite non-intuitive search facility. I know now though, and caught up with a few episodes yesterday while ironing 😊
