I wouldn't say his comments were snobbish myself, they were simply observations of the majority of the people who he had encountered there. Given he is usually there with a microphone and, like anybody, is probably likely to speak to some groups of people more than others, he likely just interviews more middle-class people. I'd still bet he is right in his judgement though, I don't think chelsea is on the calendar for most non-gardeners from working-class backgrounds  in the same way it is for many non-gardeners from a middle-class background.

In answer to your question @Nanny Beach , I'm a graphic designer and photographer.
For what its worth, my life now would probably be described as middle-class, my upbringing, family and accent would all be very much working-class. I brushed the chip off my shoulder about that a long time ago

I went last year for the first time and I loved it! We went on the last day and bought the sale plants- didn’t intend to. We then went to one of the Chelsea growers the following day and picked up loads of the plants coming back at a bargain price too... my car was rammed! It was like driving a garden down the motorway lol!

It was great fun watching people carrying plants down the streets and on the tube- a really good atmosphere as everyone was chuckling about it. It was also wonderful to see the streets of Chelsea and the tube platforms literally paved with fallen petals! Fabulous!

All this talk of class is making me think of The Class Sketch with John Cleese and the Two Ronnies...😂

Whats 27? Obelixx? I know Charlie whatshis name made millions from Pimlico Plumbers, I was thinking of the Victoria Beckhams who are very famous for being famous, has quillions and her "dress designs" are rubbish, people waste money on them beause of her name.I know quite a few uni grads, doing courses in subjects so diverse, they wont get a job at the end, and have lots of brains (aparently) but not a grain of commen sense!

On the Forkers thread we refer to 60+ as being 27.

Far too many people of all levels of society and education who are short on common sense!

Cant  buy plants!?! Ah well, I’m sure I’ll find something to bring home with me.
I have already packed a wee notebook and pen to make lists.

Most degrees do not qualify you for a job ... training courses do that ... degrees are (or should be) about education ... quite different

HazyB - you need comfy clothes in layers, sunscreen, a light waterproof just in case, a bin bag to sit on when you find no seats for your picnic, a bottle of water and, most important, a camera with an empty card and a full battery.  Much better than notes for recording plant names in the pavilion and plant combinations in the displays and gardens.

Most of the display gardens hand out plant lists.  You can order plants from the nurseries in the pavilion!

I’m flying over to my sister’s tomorrow and will be at the Chelsea Flower Show on Thursday.   I won’t be able to bring too much home on the plane but I booked my case into the hold so I should at least be able to get a couple in  9cm pots to go in my hand luggage.

It wouldn't be right to go to Chelsea and leave without a plant as a memento 🌱 😆

Unless things have changed over the past few years, you can't actually purchase plants at the show.  You can order for delivery, but only take stuff away if you wait until the end of the final day.

Who said that anyone at Chelsea is better than anyone else ... or that anyone on the forum thinks they are?
If you want to see people who think they are better than anyone else, try getting in the way of members or officials at the Shrewsbury Flower Show!

    It's not just a celebrity's day.

I went to Chelsea yesterday and I'm a complete novice and not famous or a celebrity I was lucky enough to be offered the opportunity to go with a friend as she helped on one of the projects all that work on the projects are invited on the Monday as a bit of a thank you and to see their works completed I don't think most would consider themselves snobbish in any way.
