Sadly 50000 people did not want to watch me working in ICU, so I did not get a footballers salary.
Quite. But you still had to do that work week in, week out and under intense scrutiny. And you've also worked in places where you were taking real risks with your own safety for - I would guess - even less money than the day job.

Sadly didn't get paid at all for more dangerous jobs, and had to take unpaid leave from my proper jobs. Made me feel good about myself though.
How can you lie there and think of England

I have this on good authority because a friend of mine used to work there. Nigel Hawthorne and Derek Jacobi kicked up a fuss because they had to wait in line at the Anne Frank House. By contrast Tom Conti was asked if he wanted to be fast tracked (I strongly disapprove of the fact they have people looking out for celebrities in the queue) and he refused saying being an actor did not make him a special person. And as for Sandra Bullock, she insisted at short notice the museum was closed for two hours because she did not want to mix with the great unwashed.

Punkdoc, using your talents so altruistically makes you worthy of an honour in my book. Unfortunately they all seem to get snaffled by the likes of Hawthorne, Jacobi and other painted mimes.

People often complain about footballers wages but as I am not a supporter I don’t pay them a penny, unlike our wonderful politicians paid for by us! Also just think how much tax footballers pay, actors too and musicians and none of them supported by public money!

    TV? What is that please?
It's a box which sits in the corner of the room pumping out total garbage during the day and destroying conversation in the evenings.  Continue to avoid it if you can. :D

This country needs people on high incomes, what would happen to it if everyone sat around like me not earning anything and paying no tax.  What’s the tax bracket now?
There are only two people I object too on extremely high salaries,  Gary Lineker and the head of the NHS. That’s just too much for what they do.

Just because folk earn lots of money doesn't mean they pay a lot of tax.
Lots of "Non Dom"  footballers , for example, send their salaries home if the tax rate is lower there.
And there are lots of "Tax avoidance" schemes around too.

There must be some tax payers, we are still a rich country, look at what we do!

I think if each and every one of us paid our fair amount of tax we'd all be better off.
