Lifting some maincrop spuds wish I had started earlier, some have a lot of slug damage.

I'll be lifting mine next week, "some have a lot of slug damage" is better than a lot have some slug damage, fingers crossed.

Only just! What is most annoying is some look as though they just have one small hole, then you try to peel & cut them to use & reveal the full horror of a spud that's riddled with holes & unusable, happy to cut out some damage but when it gets to 50% + it's not worth it. That said there are plenty that are fine.
The first root of Picasso, have to be honest they were not all this good but this really was one root- odd the one nearest the path is often not so good but this is it.

I dug two rows of Desiree this morning they were so much bigger than last year, I filled a big 76 litre trug and have four more rows to dig tomorrow, I reckon I only filled one trug from the whole six rows last year. There was very little slug damage at least no more than is usual. I was quite surprised how wet the soil was six or seven inches down considering how hot it has been over the weekend. I'll upload some photos tomorrow.

I picked up some more pallets yesterday for free that I'm going to use to make a multi section compost bin. We did some more clearing this morning. We're so close to the back of the plot now - just a relatively thin strip of weeds left. Although it's made awkward by there being a lot of rubble mixed in with it - and a large amount of brittle plastic.

In fact a large section of the plot is covered in small plastic fragments - which we spent a whole morning trying to clear, but keep finding more. Previous holder obviously just dumped a load of plastic bags and pots which have subsequently broken up and spread all over.

Its enough to put you off plastic for life!

We're getting there though, and our plot neighbours are very friendly.

I'll try to upload pictures of today's harvest 169kg of Desiree potatoes from 4 kg of seed, some slight damage from slugs and fork nicks e.t.c  affecting less than 10% of the crop, 1 row 6.3 Kg white Alsia Craig onions grown from seed , 1 row 4 Kg red onion grown from seed. This constitutes a good crop for me and much better than last year.

    Hello everybody, back of hols
Vine Eye , sorry to see all that plastic
Just been to plot to have a look , in between the showers and how everything has grown in just 2 weeks including the weeds
Caterpillars 🐛 munching away on my sprout plants and the rain has washed lots of soil off the Potatoes 🥔, so they are  going green , looks like a couple of busy weeks ahead
    Hope the weather holds
    The joy of gardening 😉
  • Hope you had a good holiday @GWRS , it will set you up for all the hard work you have ahead.😁
It's been a bit up and down weather wise but everything has raced to fruition and I am picking and packing as fast I can. We just need a couple more weeks of reasonable weather to finish off.

Hello , a good few hours yesterday afternoon and this morning
A couple of rows of potatoes 🥔 dug up , harvested lots toms , courgettes as big a pumpkins  , 4 bags of weeds each day , garden bin being emptied this Thursday, good job as it’s full to the brim
Obviously lots of little job done , a good start
